The leaders of the Congress of Rabbis 'Pikuach Nefesh', which brings together 380 rabbis and dayani of Israel, rabbis of cities and neighborhoods, who have signed a halakhic ruling against handing over Israeli territories to foreigners, sent a telegram to the President of the United States Donald Trump, following his meeting with Abu Mazen.
In the cable, the rabbis write that they appreciate the president's desire to achieve peace in the Middle East, as King David of Israel wrote in the Psalms, "Seek peace and pursue it," but it is clear to everyone that the concept that in order to achieve peace, Israel must give up territories under its control has long since collapsed.
""In the last 25 years, it has been proven time and again that every statement and every negotiation based on the idea of handing over territory to the Palestinians or establishing a state for the Palestinians, let alone actually handing over territory - has resulted in only one thing: terrible bloodshed, increased terrorism, and serious dangers to all residents of the Holy Land.".
Rabbis added and wrote to the president: "The sages of Israel foresaw this hundreds of years ago. They wrote it in the Talmud and the matter is legally established in the Jewish book of halachah – the Shulchan Aruch: Any talk of ceding and handing over the territories of Israel to foreigners will not bring peace, but rather the opposite – it will increase the bloodshed many times over, God forbid.".
""If the United States is sincere in its desire for peace for all parties, there is only one way to do so: declare that all of Israel's territories remain in its hands, and that a Palestinian state will never be established in the territory of the Land of Israel. Only from this starting point will it be possible to bring about true peace for all parties.".
The rabbis end the telegram with the blessing "Baruch Hava in the name of Hashem," on the occasion of President Trump's expected visit to the Holy Land and with wishes for success in his important role in bringing true peace to the Middle East and the entire world.
