The established Haredi press does not publish pictures of women - and the 'critics' make sure to censor any such pictures • But now, for the first time, ahead of the US presidential election, the editorial team of a family newspaper published in English is breaking the rules and publishing Hillary Clinton on the cover of the magazine

The Haredi press - the dailies and weeklies - does not publish pictures of women.

'The "censors" in charge of censorship in every newspaper are careful to blur and erase every woman, even if she is hidden within a large image. Even pictures of elderly rabbis, those who have long since passed away, do not escape the censorship numbers or the Photoshop tweaks of the diligent graphic designers.

But what these self-righteous women did not win, the Democratic candidate for president of the United States - Hillary Clinton - won.

This week, six days before the election, her picture appears on the cover of the English-language version of the magazine 'Mishpacha'. Is this a precedent for the possibility that she will spend the next four years in the White House? We'll wait and see.

The response of the 'family' system in the US to the Haredim 10:

"The English-language newspaper 'Family' is subordinate to a spiritual committee composed of important figures in the Torah world of the United States.

"In consultation with the spiritual committee and the rabbis of the communities in the US, it was decided, taking into account a range of considerations of public responsibility, to publish the image in the manner in which it was published.".

And what about the future?

""We continue to consult with the rabbis.".
