Isaiah Lieberman,
I turn to you from a clean place, not in anger, nor out of vindictiveness: Please respect us, respect yourself, and give up the beloved symbol of the city of Jerusalem.
I assume you are convinced by inner passion, because you do not discriminate against Spanish girls... The public, of course, believes otherwise.
Since your candidacy made headlines, I have been receiving a flood of phone calls, letters, and inquiries from a large audience, asking me to do everything possible to prevent you from receiving this letter (which is not important at all).
For your information, senior Ashkenazi rabbis in Jerusalem also pleaded with me before I thwart your candidacy. "He is not suitable," they told me. "He is not worthy.".
You may have many rights. That may not be disputed. But there is one thing no one will dispute: much more than a multitude sticks to you. A stain that you will not be able to erase.
The seminar you head is considered the prototype of the seminaries that discriminate against girls based on their religious affiliation. Aren't you guilty? Think about it this way. You are certainly not fit to receive the award as an ultra-Orthodox person.
Save yourself the embarrassment, because I'm sure that as you stand on the city hall stage, with the other dignitaries receiving the award, there will be enough parents you have offended who will find it appropriate to come and state to the public and the world the disgust they feel when you receive a title that many believe you are not entitled to.
Remember that hundreds and thousands of Haredi parents see you as someone who ruined their lives, and in their darkest nightmares you receive a reward.
One of the conditions for receiving the award is that the candidate must be over the age of seventy. After all, we all know that human life is finite. How can you not fear the horror of the judgment of the Creator of the world in the court of heaven? How?
In a higher court, you will not be helped by businessmen and rabbis who here, in this world, bowed down to you and humiliated themselves and their flocks in the face of the caprices and discrimination you introduced in your educational institution; you will not be helped by politicians and rabbinical court officials, of one kind or another.
There is true law. There is no difference between Sephardim and Ashkenazim. There Sephardim are not afraid to testify about what they experienced during the admissions process to your school. There they will tell you about every girl and boy who left the path because of the humiliating experience of enrolling in your school.
As a believing Jew, I believe that the gates of repentance are not closed.
The time has come for you, at your age, to begin the journey of repentance in this matter, to begin the journey by voluntarily renouncing the title of Yakir of the City of Jerusalem. When you do this, we will continue to talk about the next steps...
