The award committee, headed by Maj. Gen. Meir Klifi, chose to award the award to six prominent projects that made a substantial contribution to the operational, technological and intelligence superiority of the State of Israel during the 'Iron Swords' War.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was also decided to award a certificate of appreciation for a first-of-its-kind medical project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The winning projects: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Eitan armored personnel carrier - which participated in the fighting in Gaza and enabled the rescue of fighters under fire; the array of "Shavit", "Eagle" and "Oron" mission aircraft - which enabled advanced intelligence control in all sectors of the fighting; a secret Shin Bet system, which provided access to targets deep inside the enemy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Joint technological development by the Defense Ministry, Rafael, Israel Aerospace Industries, and the IDF, which contributed to stopping a strategic threat during the war; an intelligence operation by the Mossad and the IDF, which led to the assassination of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, and an innovative system by Elbit and the Nuclear Research Center, which developed a groundbreaking technological capability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, a special certificate of appreciation will be awarded for an innovative medical project: the world's first operational use of whole blood to treat the wounded, led by the Medical Corps, MDA, and the Air and Special Forces Wing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The award committee was headed by Maj. Gen. Meir Klifi, accompanied by Maj. Gen. Itzik Turgeman, a representative of the academy, and the committee's secretary, Asher Wagner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Israel Defense Prize will be awarded in the presence of the President of the State, the Minister of Defense, the Chief of Staff, and the Director General of the Ministry of Defense on June 18 at the President's Residence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To mark 77 years of the country's independence and against the backdrop of the "Iron Swords" War, the committee recommended that Defense Minister Katz award this year's award to 6 prominent projects that contributed substantially to the qualitative and technological superiority of the State of Israel during the war. The committee also recommended awarding a certificate of appreciation to another project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The winning projects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Eitan APC: The award will be presented to the Merkava and Armored Vehicle Administration (MERCA) and the Defense Procurement Administration (DPA) at the Ministry of Defense, to the Armaments Department and the School for Operational Mobility in the Land Arm, to the Medical Corps in the Technology and Logistics Division, and to the Nahal Brigade, for the development and production of the "Eitan", an 8x8 wheeled armored vehicle operationally adapted to the needs of infantry fighters and allowing operation in combat scenarios fraught with threats in a way that has not been the case before. The Eitan armored personnel carrier successfully performed its first baptism of fire during the 'Iron Swords' War, took a significant part in the ground maneuver, enabled the rescue of hundreds of wounded fighters and participated in the rescue of hostages from Gaza. The Eitan, developed by the Ministry of Defense, combines advanced and groundbreaking technology and is the result of years of work and cooperation in the development, production and assimilation of the Ministry of Defense, the IDF and the defense industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
"Shavit", "Eagle" and "Oron" mission aircraft: The award will be given to the Director of Research and Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure at the Ministry of Defense, the Israel Aerospace Industries, the Air Force, the Naval Force and the Intelligence Branch in the IDF for the development and operation of the "Shavit", "Eagle" and "Oron" mission aircraft, which constitute an operational array with a significant and unique contribution to the security of the state. The array is based on advanced technologies that provide command, control and intelligence capabilities in all theaters of war. The importance of the array was sharpened during the "Iron Swords" War, in missions to protect the country's skies, preserve intelligence superiority and as part of the long arm of the State of Israel. The development of the array reflects innovation, creativity, audacity and technological initiative over many years, alongside exceptional cooperation between the Ministry of Defense, the IDF and the Israel Aerospace Industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An award will be given to the General Security Service for developing a system produced by the organization's technology unit, in combination with additional units from the intelligence community and the defense industry. The system constitutes an extraordinary technological solution, and when operated by the Shin Bet's operational unit and the intelligence technological activity of the Military Intelligence Service, it enables access to deep-seated targets and enemy infrastructure. Thanks to the system, valuable intelligence was obtained during the 'Iron Swords' war, which contributed to significant successes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An award will be given to the Special Operations Division in the Intelligence Division, the Directorate for Research and Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure in the Ministry of Defense, the Air Force, the Israel Aerospace Industries, and Rafael for technological-operational development as a response to an operational problem that constitutes a strategic threat to the security of the State of Israel. During the war, the project resulted in impressive operational achievements in a way that directly protected civilian lives and prevented a significant achievement by the enemy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An award will be given to the Mossad, the IDF Intelligence Branch, the Directorate for Research and Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure at the Ministry of Defense, the Air Force, Rafael Companies, and Elbit Systems for developing and implementing unique capabilities that led to the assassination of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, and to a fatal blow to the terrorist organization during this "Iron Swords" war through groundbreaking technologies, creativity, and determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An award will be given to Elbit Systems, the R&D unit at the IDF's Defense and Military Development Center, the Land Armaments Department, the Technology and Logistics Division, the Defense and Military Development Center at the Ministry of Defense, and the Nuclear Research Center for developing a groundbreaking advanced system with a world-class technological achievement. The development reflects creativity, from setting a challenging vision to its realization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Israel Defense Prize Committee also decided to award a special certificate of appreciation to the Medical Corps in the Technology and Logistics Branch of the IDF, the Blood Services in the MDA, and the Air Force and Special Forces Wing in the Air Force for the "Whole Blood for the Treatment of the Wounded" project. During the 'Iron Swords' War, for the first time in the world, whole blood was used instead of plasma, thus saving the lives of many wounded. The use of whole blood is considered a challenge in the Western world, mainly due to the complexity of transporting and handling it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
