Following a series of incidents of doctors relying on AI, which led to serious medical errors and recently reached the doorstep of the 'For You' organization: Medical Advisor Yossi Arblich, chairman and founder of the organization, sent an urgent letter to Health Minister Uriel Bosso, in order to address the phenomenon of doctors' overreliance on AI - which leads to serious medical errors and a real risk to life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\""Following numerous recent inquiries to the organization, we are witnessing a serious phenomenon of overreliance by doctors and staff on AI chats, which has led to serious medical errors in a long line of cases," writes Arbelich in his letter to the Minister of Health. He cites examples such as, "receiving incorrect dosages for taking medications, incorrect opinions, and more, which have often led to real life danger.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a letter also sent to the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Moshe Bar-Simentov, the Head of Public Health Services at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Sharon El-Rai Price, and the Chairman of the Israel Doctors' Association, Prof. Zion Hagai, the Chairman and Founder of 'For You' notes: "Many studies have shown that the results obtained by artificial intelligence are inconsistent, and sometimes different answers are given for the same medical case." He emphasizes that "while errors in certain areas may be harmless, medical errors may cost human lives.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Arbelich warns in his letter: "Due to the heavy workload in hospitals and the heavy burden placed on the shoulders of dedicated doctors, they are often tempted by the easy and quick way of using artificial intelligence, which, as mentioned, is not yet mature enough to provide medical answers.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The medical advisor and chairman of 'For You' demands in his appeal to the Minister of Health: "To formulate, together with the medical schools and the Israel Medical Association, clear guidelines and clear ethical rules regarding the use of artificial intelligence in medicine, alongside the establishment of mechanisms for supervision and enforcement of the teams, including setting sanctions and warnings for medical teams that use it and even for hospitals, in places where it may endanger human lives.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an appeal to the minister, also signed by former Schneider Hospital Director Prof. Yosef Peres, President of the "For You" organization, and Deputy Director of Beilinson Hospital Dr. Gadi Neumann, Vice President of the organization and Head of the Research and Innovation Department at "For You", Arbelich warns that without the establishment of substantial sanctions by the Ministry of Health, this could pose a real risk to the lives of patients.
