All over the world, crowds of Jews will gather on the 19th-20th of Kislev to celebrate the holiday of redemption of Rabbi Shneur-Zalman of Ladi, author of the Tanya and the Shulchan Aruch. For more than two hundred and twenty years, the holiday of redemption has been celebrated, and the holiday has not changed.<\/p>\r\n
It is celebrated every year with renewed joy and a deep sense of relevance. Perhaps this is one of the characteristics of a true and eternal holiday.<\/p>\r\n
Our old rabbi said after his redemption: "This day will be established as a permanent date in Israel, on which His great glory will be exalted and sanctified, and thousands of hearts in Israel will awaken to repentance and heartfelt worship." Indeed, the thousands of gatherings for the holiday of redemption, which take place throughout the world, are living testimony to the fulfillment of his holy words.<\/p>\r\n
The ember is burning.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n The 19th of Kislev is not the holiday of Rabbi Shneur-Zalman's personal redemption. Nor is it just for Chabad followers, nor is it just for the Hasidic movement. It is the holiday of every Jew, from every group and every denomination. It is the holiday of everyone who benefits from the light and influence of the teachings of Hasidic Judaism - and there is no one who has not been blessed to enjoy its light and abundance.<\/p>\r\n Today it is easy to see the revival that Hasidism brought to Judaism as a whole. It is what ignited the fire of connection to the sources in the hearts of masses of Jews throughout the world. Indeed, the fire of the Baal Shem Tov warms hearts and keeps the embers burning to this day.<\/p>\r\n The ways of Hasidism - which were perceived as an innovation at the time and provoked controversy and strong opposition - were accepted, in fact, in all avenues of Judaism. Suffice it to mention the devotion to the righteous, the enthusiasm for prayer, singing and joy, the elegance of the mitzvot, the strictness of immersion in the mikveh, and other elements that have become common knowledge today.<\/p>\r\n The fundamental concepts of Hasidism regarding matters of faith and Jewish worldview were also practically accepted in the general Jewish perception.<\/p>\r\n With love and kindness, Hasidism succeeded in healing the wounds of the people. Thanks to the adoption of its ways and ideas, faithful Judaism was able to recover from the severe blows it suffered from the Haskalah movement and the various reform trends. In places where Hasidism dominated, these foreign trends were unable to take root.<\/p>\r\n We will be happy and strengthened.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n The 19th of Kislev is therefore a holiday for all of us. On this day, Hasidism received a 'green light' from heaven to break forth. On this day, the prophecy-instruction of the Messiah to the Torah (the well-known ascension of the soul) began to be fulfilled: "Your springs will be filled with water.".<\/p>\r\n The holiday of redemption inspires us all to remember that Hasidism is the revelation of a part of the Torah that is essential to all of us. Just as the time came when the Mishnah and Gemara, the books of the Rishonim, and the acceptance of the late Ari were revealed \u2013 so too has the time come when the light of Messiah began to shine, and we were given the opportunity to taste the treasures of the innermost Torah.<\/p>\r\n Chassidism is intended for everyone. For the common people and the world's geniuses, for students of the sages and for people of labor. It enlivens the soul; it satisfies the mind with a profound understanding of the greatness of the Creator, and the profound meaning of the Torah and its commandments; it inspires joy and enthusiasm in the work of the Creator. It is the inner vitality of Jewish life.<\/p>\r\n Let us all rejoice on the holiday of redemption, let us gather together in love and kindness, and let us wish one another, as is the custom of the Hasidim:\u00a0Happy Holidays!
