As part of my work with youth from different populations in Israel, I recently visited over 50 high and seder yeshivot belonging to the serogim sector across the country. In one week, I toured, from Mitzpe Ramon in the south to Chispin in the Golan, Orot Bat Yam, Kerem Yavneh and Or Etzion in the west, Ma'ale Adumim and Mitzpe Jericho in the east. Most of the yeshivot are geographically distant from the haredim concentrations in Jerusalem, Bnei Brak and the other new cities.<\/p>\r\n
But we, I discovered, are much closer.<\/p>\r\n
True, they don't dress like us - they all wear knitted kippahs, some small kippahs, some really big ones, jeans, colorful shirts with different inscriptions, some have long hair and some have beards and long wigs. Unlike in Haredi yeshivots, the books of the Rabbis are on the tables, and in the year of the Sabbatical, there is the historic debate on the issue of a sales permit.<\/p>\r\n
And yet, if you close your eyes for a moment, you are certain that you are in a Lithuanian yeshiva in Bnei Brak, or a Sephardic beit midrash in Jerusalem. Everyone is busy with the experiences of Dabei and Rabbah, with the same melody, the same books being pulled out, hundreds of students in "Ritcha Da'Oriyata," and the voice of the Torah can be heard in our land, in Yeruham, Dimona, and in Sderot there are two large yeshivahs, in Haifa, Nahariya, Acre, Ma'alot, Kiryat Shmona, and in Safed there are also two large yeshivahs.<\/p>\r\n
Even if you enter the temple during prayer time, in your imagination you are in a Hasidic yeshiva in the center of the country. Everyone is concentrated, moving slightly, the standing prayer takes a long time, intentionally from the outpouring of the soul. The teachings of Hasidism flourish here in the mountains of Samaria, Alon Moreh, Har Bracha and Itamar near Nablus, Karnei Shomron, Shavei Shomron and Kedumim.<\/p>\r\n
Abrechim, kollel, yes, in each yeshiva there are dozens of abrechim if not more, some of them did the army in order, some of them, within the framework of "their Torah and their art", deferred their military service, sound familiar?<\/p>\r\n
They have biblical sandals, and they are content with little and kill themselves in the tent of Torah, in the Hebron ghetto, Kiryat Arba and Otniel near Hebron, Tekoa, Bat Ein and Alon Shvut in Gush Etzion, and not only that, but also in the center: Ra'anana, Petah Tikva, Rishon LeZion, Holon and even in Tel Aviv 3 yeshivot! No less.<\/p>\r\n
Why did we move away?<\/b><\/b><\/p>\r\n
Following the last elections, we have become so distant, every knitter is no less than Bennett, and if he is a little more dos, this one is from the Housing Ministry, Uri Ariel himself, there is no middle ground, black and white. Such a large Torah world has disappeared from us, we may hear about them, but we do not know them closely, perhaps we have visited the Rabbinical Center and Mount Moriah, but not beyond, a fence separates us.<\/p>\r\n
The divider stands out, makes noise and exacts a price from both sides. Perhaps if the voice of the Torah were to unite us, politicians would also listen to the voices of the voters. Unlike other parties, only the voters of these parties declare a commitment to the Torah and mitzvot, even if there are major differences in outlook.<\/p>\r\n
Only the two communities have yeshivahs where the Torah of God is studied, not the Torah of Ruth Calderon, and only students from both sectors are tested on the "Daf Yomi" as part of the "Dershu" and "Tanya" project.<\/p>\r\n
Perhaps in the spirit of the times we will look inward and outward, not only argue but also witness, instead of visiting them we will visit them, seek the unifier and unite, because we have nothing left but this Torah, and it would be a shame to miss the brothers, yes "brothers" who are closest to us, who put on tefillin every day, go to synagogue all year round and not just yesterday on Yom Kippur, and in a few days only we and they will walk with the four species and sit in the sukkah as it is.<\/p>\r\n
We have no choice, we will unite in Torah and continue to sit as they do those who bless the IDF.<\/p>\r\n
Sukkot, a symbol of unity<\/b><\/p>\r\n
This is how the Lubavitcher Rebbe expresses the issue of "the unity of Israel" in connection with these days: "The connection between Rosh Hashanah and Sukkot ("in the cover of our holidays") - it is necessary to explain that in both of them we find a special emphasis on the unity of Israel.<\/p>\r\n
New Year's Eve:<\/p>\r\n
The crowning of the Blessed One as King in the creation of God is accomplished through the unity of Israel \u2014 as it says, "And there was a king in the assembly, when the heads of the tribes of Israel were gathered together.".<\/p>\r\n
On Sukkot:<\/p>\r\n
A) In the commandments of the four species, the unity of Israel is emphasized, uniting all four species and making them one mitzvah, which is the generality of the matter of the unity of Israel.<\/p>\r\n
b) Likewise, the unity of Israel is emphasized in the mitzvah of the Sukkah. Indeed, even a rich man in Israel, who lives in a magnificent palace all year round, leaves his home for the days of the Sukkot holiday, and enters a dwelling in a Sukkah made of simple materials, and covered with simple grass, "threshing floor and winepress waste," a Sukkah that is within the reach of a poor man in Israel.
