Predicting future political events is reserved for regression line experts and statistical geniuses, of whom I am unfortunately not one, and yet I dare to bet and determine that such a party would deal a severe blow, if not crush, the two existing Haredi parties.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">The Haredi group as a society has been operating for many years around one of the difficult and unresolved issues that constantly challenges it: the degree of interaction with the general world, that which lies beyond the &#039;ghetto&#039;.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Does a young Haredi have a place in the fields of science, culture, and education, or should he live his life within the four walls of yeshiva, Torah, and teaching? This issue, referred to by others as the question of the &#039;idea of \u200b\u200bTorah with a path to the land&#039;, which dates back to the 19th century in Western Europe - where it enjoyed great success - is now being addressed by Haredi society.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">If for decades this concept was pushed to the margins, and the dominant approach was one that saw separation from the world and distancing oneself from all the tools required for those who want to integrate and be a part of it, now, with the monumental growth of the sector, many find themselves in inner turmoil, wondering whether this is the only way, whether the &quot;Torah only&quot; method is the natural choice, and whether there is no room for integration between the wisdom of Israel on the one hand and social life on the other.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">A large group, perhaps even a very large one, believes that the time has come for change, for a revision of the education system, and for Haredi social conduct.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><strong>The extra step<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Traditional Haredi politics is now also revolving around this question, unable to take the step toward change, toward that new revision.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">The ultra-Orthodox politicians, or even some of the more moderate rabbis, even if they believe that the current concept simply does not make sense, are unwilling or unable to express their thoughts out loud. Even today, despite the social changes taking place in Haredi society, there are no changes in the content of the statements of the Haredi politicians, for whom nothing has changed.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Why? What are the ultra-Orthodox politicians afraid of, as well as the many young people who yearn with all their hearts for that change?<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">The fascinating answer lies in one factor: the power of the Haredi educational institution.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Haredi society revolves around its educational institutions. Haredi parents make sure, from kindergarten age, that their child is sent to a prestigious educational institution, recognizing that such an institution will put their son or daughter in a position to succeed on the Haredi street.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">A reputable institution will usually determine the continuation of studies in a reputable yeshiva, will label the family and determine its status, and ultimately lead to finding an &#039;equal&#039; match. The status of the family, certainly the Sephardic one, will be determined by the educational institutions in which its children are educated.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">A family that does not meet the criteria of the Haredi norm, such as the correct denomination or the father&#039;s profession, may be rejected from reputable educational institutions and ultimately be pushed to the margins of society.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Control of those ultimate institutions, therefore, constitutes a powerful social force in the hands of an elitist handful close to the courts of the great rabbis. The ability to combat this concept, in the form of establishing alternative educational institutions, may entail painful personal costs \u2013 and it is not the common good.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">The majority prefer to bow their heads, accept the social facts operating on the ground, and try to integrate into existing institutions.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Even traditional Haredi politics cannot be part of the same powerful clique that can, with a single statement, destroy the good name of this or that institution, and even lead to its closure.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Politicians or rabbis who do not follow suit may find themselves without educational institutions \u2013 Torah talmudic schools, yeshivots, and reputable kommelis \u2013 and soon be left without a public.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><b>The new [Haredi] politics<\/b><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Into this vast lacuna, with determination but gentle delicacy, slips Bar Shalom. She is everything that young Haredi people would have asked for, and could not find in their current political leaders. She is courageous, has a vision, and behind her is proven ability to act operatively in the field.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Rebbetzin Bar Shalom, with her ten fingers, founded the first Haredi college, which became an empire that produces many hundreds of psychologists, engineers, accountants, and social leaders. What young Haredi people think, she says loudly, eloquently, and above all in a non-apologetic tone.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">But Rebbetzin Bar Shalom also has another advantage that may be particularly effective in competing for the votes of the ultra-Orthodox: she is God-fearing. She has never retreated from this consciousness that pulsates within her.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">She gave up a career she wanted, following her father&#039;s request, and acted closely on his advice over the years. When asked on Galei Tzahal about six months ago whether it was right to abolish the conscription law as it is, she replied without hesitation: &quot;Absolutely yes. We need to find a way of compromise that will appease everyone.&quot;.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">On the other hand, when the interviewer tried to claim that the rabbi encouraged unemployment and non-conscription, the woman, who never seemed angry, became indignant and said: &quot;No! Stop right there! Conscription is one thing, and going to work is another. All the rabbis, when you come to them with the need to go to work, encourage you to study and go to the labor market. And he also showed this in action, by opening the Haredi college, in the Torah Spring network, where science and mathematics are taught.&quot;.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">\u00a0Rebbetzin Bar Shalom is the &#039;new politics&#039; of Haredi society.
