As a synagogue collector for twenty years, and as the son of a synagogue collector, I would like to dedicate a few words in the context of the synagogue and the important days for the State of Israel that are currently taking place.<\/p>\r\n
I am not attempting to enter into this list into the age-old controversy over the issue of "Hahelel" on Independence Day, which some permitted, some prohibited, and some permitted without a blessing, as was the ruling of the Rishon LeZion, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, zt"l.<\/p>\r\n
I also do not wish to dwell on the issue of treating the State of Israel as the 'beginning of redemption'. There are those who vehemently oppose this term, and there are many good parts of the observant public who indeed see the resurrection of the people of Israel in their land as the beginning of redemption, the continuation of which is the coming of the Messiah and the complete redemption.<\/p>\r\n
The question of the flag, its sanctity, and its hanging on the roofs of houses, etc., is also a question that involves sectoral politics, and again, this is not the place to go into it.<\/p>\r\n
In my opinion, everyone should live by their faith, as long as they respect others and do not commit acts that are perceived as damaging to the public sphere [I'm not talking about those lunatics who burn the flag, as they are not worthy of any respect].<\/p>\r\n
The point that is important to me, and which I would like to suggest, is the behavior in synagogues on Memorial Day and Independence Day.<\/p>\r\n
As stated, I am not referring to the prayers that have been revised and over which there is disagreement between different sectors, such as Hallel and the prayer for the peace of the state. Rather, I am referring to any attitude towards these days \u2013 each in his own way.<\/p>\r\n
It would be nice in my opinion if all synagogues from all sectors were, This is also ours, the ultra-Orthodox.<\/strong>, For example, they gather on Memorial Day and deliver lessons to elevate the souls of the fallen, emphasizing that the words of the Torah will elevate their souls.<\/p>\r\n Even if there are no lessons, it would be appropriate to read a chapter of Psalms or a Mishnah after the prayer to remember those who fought for us and died simply because they were Jews.<\/p>\r\n On Independence Day, it was important to read a chapter of Psalms such as "Psalter for Thanksgiving," to give thanks for the miracles done to us, or to hold a day of Torah lessons as a way of thanking God for salvation and deliverance. In these lessons, the rabbis can discuss the issue of how to approach Independence Day, or if they prefer, they can simply point out that on this day God visited His people, performed miracles and wonders for them, and we are privileged to dwell in our land and study His Torah in peace and tranquility.<\/p>\r\n It is important for me to emphasize: I do not mean, God forbid, any particular sector or public. I have no desire to get into the political issue and point to one group or another. I mean on a very personal level. In these days, something big has happened. Very big. It is important that we do not ignore this. God did not return us to the land and turn us into a country with millions of inhabitants so that we would not notice it. In my opinion, we must not ignore this.<\/p>\r\n I am well aware of the statements that things have also been done in the country that are contrary to the Torah and the commandments, and I do not ignore this.
