Even Joseph Nicephore Niepce, a French inventor who lived 200 years ago, couldn't believe what his invention would do to people. He simply wanted to make people record their beautiful moments using a special technique, spent many months thinking and experimenting, and one day he succeeded. That's how the camera was born.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

People were happy. Finally, you can document the happiest day of your life in black and white photos; finally, you can take a picture of your little teething child at a good time, and even take a picture next to the Eiffel Tower, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, or any other tower.<\/p>\r\n

The ingenious invention brought livelihood to thousands of photographers who began documenting events, established large film factories, brought thousands of pictures of rabbis into the world to fulfill what was said, "And your eyes should see your teachers," and even provided hundreds of moments of occupation for grandmothers, who forced their grandchildren to sit down to see the pictures of their grandfather, peace be upon him, "when he was young.".<\/p>\r\n

Hmmm, that same Joseph certainly wouldn't have believed that 200 years later, every second child at the age of 12 would hold a 'camera' and document every moment, as if he were Shuki Lehrer.<\/p>\r\n

Suddenly you're walking down the street, and whoops, someone's taking a picture of you. You go into a place, and flash, something has recorded you.<\/p>\r\n

On the one hand, it strengthened our reverence for heaven. "Know what is above you," as the Mishnah in Avot says, "an eye sees and an ear hears." And if every child has a camera, which stores thousands of photos on a small memory card, imagine what goes on up there in the sky. Everything is photographed and filmed in HD, in 3D technology, on 360-degree cameras, the cameras also at night using infrared, violet or black. Whatever you like. Scary.<\/p>\r\n

On the other hand, and here comes the big disaster, cameras have made us more 'voyeuristic.' Why tell slanderous things, if you can take a picture and send it to all your friends with the click of a button?<\/p>\r\n

\""Did you see how Grandpa yelled at him?"\"<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

This week I was shown a video that really shocked me. It was a video taken at a family event - a family apparently going through a crisis. One of the participants documented all the fights and yelling, and decided to share the stirring experience with the whole world (and his wife).<\/p>\r\n

The video became the talk of the day: "Did you see how the grandfather yelled at him? And how did he respond to him?" I heard a young man ask his friend at a bar mitzvah I attended.<\/p>\r\n

Wait, that's not all. Two days later, the second part of the video was released: "Continuation of the video, part two - a must-see," as if it were an entertainment presentation or a lecture by Rabbi Fenger.<\/p>\r\n

If it wasn't disgusting, it would be even more disgusting, and sad. Really sad.<\/p>\r\n

Maybe it's time to strike a blow, to ask ourselves how we got to this point. Where did this "voyeurism" come from? Since when do we care to hear all this slander? To see it? To go into its details, and to talk about it at events, with such undisguised pleasure.<\/p>\r\n

Scum and Mauss on the second line<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Okay, so not all of us have cameras at hand, and many of us aren't exposed to all this filth.<\/p>\r\n

But if we thought we were protected, and only had kosher telephones approved by the rabbis, which prevented us from being exposed to all this filth and disgust, a new evil inclination came in the form of "the lines of the snares," and decided that if we didn't call to hear him, he would call us.<\/p>\r\n

Indeed, in recent months, hundreds of avrechim and churis of the holy yeshivas, who labor day and night over their Torah, have begun to receive "tsintokums" (a disconnection call in the spoken slang), and when they return to the number from which the call was received, they are exposed to a world of new content, "news lines" in Hebrew. If you want to hear news, press 1, hear gossip, press 2, hear slander, press 3, and so on.<\/p>\r\n

And what will the boys do and not sin?<\/p>\r\n

I have a father who is in pain, whose son has become addicted to those lines, and every day when the son returns from yeshiva, he calls these lines to be "updated," and listens for long hours to all the same nonsense on those lines.<\/p>\r\n

So that's right, technologically the Rabbinical Committee for Communications is having a hard time stopping those lines. Every two days they change a new number, and continue to disconnect thousands of yeshiva students and avrechims, so that they are updated on the new number. By the time the Rabbinical Committee comes up with the new number, they have already changed a new number, and continue to drive all those innocent young men crazy who fall prey to it, and listen eagerly to all that slander and gossip.<\/p>\r\n

What is the solution, you ask? Maybe find those who have lines, and denounce them publicly?<\/p>\r\n

And those with lines, listen: Well, up until now you've been talking to yourselves along those lines, we didn't care. But calling and harassing hundreds of innocent guys? Trying to force them out of their studies and put nonsense in their heads? Are you willing to accept the responsibility for that? And in the month of Elul? How are you not afraid of the coming Day of Judgment?<\/p>\r\n

* * *<\/p>\r\nAnd maybe this is the time to accept it well, in the spirit of the coming and approaching days of judgment, and try to detach yourself as much as possible from this filth and disgust. And even if they really try to show you such videos, or tell you such gossip, simply prevent yourself from looking or hearing. For the good of all of us, for your own good.\r\n

Go and find out, the world is spinning, today you saw videos that invade your neighbors' privacy, maybe tomorrow you will be there in those videos? Would you like the entire nation of Israel to see you in not-so-flattering moments? Probably not, right? So you too, just don't watch it. Don't give a hand to the ugly plague that has spread in our city. Denounce it outside the camp. Just like leprosy. And it was beautiful an hour earlier.<\/p>\r\n
