Even seemingly simple human reason leads to the conclusion that it is forbidden to murder and steal, to deceive and to whitewash. We can understand for ourselves that it is appropriate to honor parents, to stand up for an old man, to help those in need.<\/p>\r\n
However, our eyes see that at Mount Sinai we were also given simple and self-evident commandments: 'You shall not murder,' 'You shall not steal,' 'You shall not covet,' and so on. These are seemingly basic moral values, without which human society cannot exist. And was this special and rare event necessary for this? For the first and only time in history in which the Creator revealed Himself to an entire people, He chooses to command us on such simple things, which human logic requires their existence?!<\/p>\r\n
From this we can learn that even for basic moral values \u200b\u200bwe need the status of Mount Sinai, a supreme command from the Creator of the world. Without it, reason may lead us in other directions.<\/p>\r\n
A debate that teaches a lot<\/strong><\/p>\r\n We are seeing these days the inability to build a stable system based on reason and logic.<\/p>\r\n On the surface, the reality is crystal clear \u2013 a dangerous virus is spreading around the world at an enormous speed, causing severe illness and even death, and there is still no effective cure for it. Common sense says that it is worth being careful, taking precautions to prevent infection, even at the cost of discomfort and disruption to daily life, because life is most precious.<\/p>\r\n But against this simple logic, all sorts of opposing arguments emerge. Some claim that there really is no epidemic. Others are convinced that precautions are unnecessary and harmful. Some believe that it is appropriate to encourage infection in order to achieve 'herd immunity.' Others present a position that it is appropriate to pay with human lives to continue with the routine of life.<\/p>\r\n Then God gives wisdom and understanding to the hearts of the experts and they succeed in developing a vaccine against the disease. Ostensibly, the whole world should have received the news with applause. But no. Immediately, a movement of anti-vaccinationists arose, with a host of arguments for why not to get vaccinated...<\/p>\r\n Now you say, can all these differences of opinion be resolved by pure reason?<\/p>\r\n Theoretically yes, because these are things that can be tested with scientific tools, through proper analysis of data, experiments, and results in the field. But practically it is hopeless. Because when a person is entrenched in some position \u2013 the factual data will not convince him, and for every argument that is refuted, he will invent two new ones.<\/p>\r\n One stable base<\/strong><\/p>\r\n Even in the matter of morality, it is impossible to base oneself on logic. One can easily construct a theory that it is right to steal from the rich to give to the poor. Or that it is permissible and necessary to kill certain people. And that there is really no reason to respect parents, because they decided to marry and have children out of their own personal interest. And that the elderly are actually a burden and a burden on society.<\/p>\r\n These are not theoretical ideas, but approaches that have been practically adopted by human societies throughout history.<\/p>\r\n The solid foundation for moral values \u200b\u200bis the absolute divine command, which is not subject to logical considerations. We received this at Mount Sinai, in the Ten Commandments, and in the Torah commandments that were given later.
