Until last night, as far as is known, nothing was announced to women who may have been in contact with them, and the details of these women were passed on to the Ministry of Health. This is a widespread outbreak of the disease in the delivery room where 50 midwives work. According to the investigation, nearly 20% of them were infected. These are midwives who apparently did not adhere to hermetic protection. In an interview with the 'Sheva-Teshah' program with Golan Yochpaz and Anat Davidov, the hospital's medical director, Prof. Motti Ravid, said that he did not update the public on the case because he was busy with the workload at the hospital. He claims that this was not done intentionally and that infections happen frequently in all hospitals. "It's not like taking care of a patient where you can keep some distance and no one is behind glass and everyone is taking risks every day - so they deserve a good word." This is a very old and very busy maternity ward. Many of the women who come to the ward are residents of Bnei Brak and the area, who prefer to give birth at the local hospital, which strictly adheres to Halacha, and where nearly 1,000 births are held every month. About 30 births every day. According to the hospital management, some of the midwives were apparently infected from sick women in labor who were hospitalized in the COVID-19 wing of the delivery room - midwives who apparently did not adhere to hermetic protection. Other midwives and staff members were apparently infected inside the hospital, and came into contact with women in labor in the regular ward of the delivery room. As part of a 103fm investigation, an investigator called the hospital several times over the weekend to find out whether the place was safe from COVID-19. The facts that answered this call, and other calls made by investigators over the weekend, did not hint at the events. This is how the conversation went: Hospital representative: "Come here, we'll pamper you." 103fm investigator: "In terms of the number of girls in the room, is there overcrowding?" Hospital representative: "Right now we're really trying to keep mothers away from each other." 103fm investigator: "In terms of the coronavirus, is it quiet? Everything is fine?" Hospital representative: "Calm, yes." 103fm investigator: "I'm very worried." Hospital representative: "You don't have to worry about the coronavirus, there is a special ward for coronavirus and there is no human contact for mothers and there is no concern. If a mother who is suspected of having coronavirus is in the ward, not in the delivery room. Elsewhere, it's like two different wards. Come and everything is fine, there is no such thing. The healthy mothers are in the ward alone and the mothers with suspected cases are not in the same place, don't worry. Come, with joy, we are waiting for you. The midwives are all lovely, they have all been tested, thank God they are all fine, all the midwives have been tested." Following the outbreak in the delivery room, Professor Yehuda Carmeli, director of the National Center for Infection Prevention at the Ministry of Health, was called to the hospital on Friday. He asked to understand who was infected, when, and with whom he came into contact. The hospital management was asked to provide the ministry with a list of about two hundred mothers who may have come into contact with the staff who tested positive for COVID-19. That same day, when the researcher called the hospital again and asked whether any of the medical staff had been infected in recent days, she received an evasive answer. This is how the conversation went: 103fm researcher: "Are there no mothers with COVID-19?" Hospital representative: "Listen to me, unequivocally there are no mothers with even a suspicion of COVID-19 who are in a regular delivery room, there is no such situation. Suspected of coronavirus, women give birth in a completely different ward altogether, not in the delivery room." 103fm researcher: "In terms of midwives?" Hospital representative: "When there is a woman giving birth with suspected coronavirus, a designated midwife goes to this place and only treats suspected coronavirus, does not enter the delivery room until the birth is over, bathes and changes clothes, you have nothing to worry about." 103fm researcher: "No?" Hospital representative: "We don't have anyone right now." 103fm researcher: "Right now? Did you have any?" Hospital representative: "I don't know, it could be, like everywhere. Right now, all the midwives who work are healthy and intact, and anyone who is sick is discharged from the arrangement, like in any hospital." 103fm researcher: "Is there or isn't there? I don't understand." Hospital representative: "First of all, there is no one at the moment, all the midwives who work are healthy and have been tested." To explain the matter - about a month ago, two midwives at Hillel Yaffe Hospital in Hadera were diagnosed with coronavirus. The story was immediately published in the media, and the hospital did not hide any information. Because of the case in question, 41 staff members from the medical center were quarantined because of the two midwives. In our case - the management of the "Ma'ayeni Hayeshua" hospital and the Ministry of Health did not think it was necessary to report the incident. The hospital even states on its website: "The safest place to give birth is at 'Ma'ayeni Hayeshua', which has decided to place the issue of patient safety and staff safety at the top of the list of priorities.".\r\n\r\n
