But we have just finished a third election campaign, the two previous ones of which were tainted with bad blood, and some are already talking about a fourth election campaign. The entire public is getting antsy at the very thought.<\/p>\r\n
Are we in for a few more months of mudslinging in all directions, more waves of hatred, more insults, more swords against one another?<\/p>\r\n
The party leaders, who have the power to end this crazy saga, talk high and mighty about national responsibility, about concern for the country and the people, about values.<\/p>\r\n
Isn't preventing the continued tearing of the people apart a sufficiently important task? Isn't putting an end to the situation where the state has no budget and many vital systems are semi-paralyzed, part of caring for the people? Isn't healing the divisions a fairly honorable value?<\/p>\r\n
No matter who started it<\/strong><\/p>\r\n Can we really let the internal pressure cooker continue to bubble? Do we correctly assess the destructive significance of the outpouring of hatred that is washing over our souls and the souls of our children? Can the people of Israel stand against its enemies when it is divided and torn within itself?<\/p>\r\n Every responsible person, observing the situation we have found ourselves in, understands that we must lower the level of hatred and hostility. And no, not to point the finger of blame at others or to dwell on the question of 'who started it.' Right now, it doesn't matter at all who is more to blame and who is less. When you see two people beating each other, you don't dwell on the question of who started it, but first of all separate them and stop the beatings.<\/p>\r\n A large public movement needs to arise to call for a halt to the heated, blunt discourse that is degenerating into terrible expressions. Even in debate, there must be red lines. Even disagreement needs to have its boundaries. The end does not justify all means.<\/p>\r\n The ball is in the hands of each and every one of us, and especially in the hands of media executives and their editors.<\/p>\r\n With all due respect to freedom of expression, we must set limits on it and return it to the paths of civilized people. It is impossible for death and illness wishes (God forbid) to be part of public discourse. It is impossible to accept a reality where editors on websites leave comments suggesting that they do to ideological opponents what Israel's enemies did to us eighty years ago. Such things must be out of bounds.<\/p>\r\n The other person completes you.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n The Sabbath is called in the Torah by the commandment of the half shekel. Every Jew is commanded to bring a donation of half a shekel. The question arises, why bring half and not a whole shekel? One explanation is that a Jew needs to know that he himself is only 'half.' With all his virtues, skills, wisdom, and success - he is only 'half.' And who completes him to be a whole thing? - Another Jew.<\/p>\r\n The other Jew is not your enemy. He is your other half. Even if he thinks differently. Even if his behavior is different from yours. Even if his political leanings are in other directions. You cannot do without him, and he cannot do without you. Only together do you become a whole, healthy, correct reality.
