As of this writing, we have 17 dead soldiers, dozens wounded, over 1,000 rockets fired at Israeli cities, more than 210 terror tunnels, 768 buried launchers, and one God in heaven and on earth.<\/p>\r\n
The heart became heavier and heavier as the hours ticked by and the rumor mill adjusted. And at the end of the day, the dreaded fear already has a name and a face and is the terrible nightmare we feared.<\/p>\r\n
This war of justice and injustice suddenly has a bitter and sour taste, and we are no longer sure that it was so worthwhile to enter the new Lebanon that was established in the heart of the country. Most of us suddenly wonder which torture we would rather endure more, whether the shelling of every city or in Israel, or the burial of our best sons one by one in the land of the seven heroes.<\/p>\r\n
We take a deep breath, grit our teeth, give the decision-makers the support they deserve, and hope that just this time, maybe they will finally finish what they started and peace will come to us and all of Israel.<\/p>\r\n
And I know that now is the time to be together, and it's not nice to ask too difficult questions when the guns are roaring, but to be honest, I can't help but ask, even though it's pretty clear that there are no real answers.<\/p>\r\n
Me, just a question.<\/b><\/b><\/p>\r\n
So let's go back to our revered decision-makers for a moment. Let's see. We have one Gaza Strip, from which in 2005 we completed the expulsion of our brothers, including the churches, cemeteries, community centers, and its blooming gardens, all with the aim of convincing the world and the enlightened left that we are people of peace.<\/p>\r\n
Instead of peace, we received mortar shells on boulevards, terror tunnels in the making, and increasingly intense bomb attacks against us.<\/p>\r\n
The heads of government for their generations turned a blind eye, continued to transfer support to the PA, switched to a defense policy and began building separation fences and Iron Domes, which, with all the enormous miracles it wrought with us, I think it wrought even greater miracles with the Hamas movement - indeed, without Iron Dome, after just one complete and real mortar shell on the Azrieli Towers, the State of Israel would have changed its tolerant and condescending approach towards Hamas. But it didn't change. Why? Because Iron Dome actually allows rockets to be fired at the civilians underneath it, with minimal damage. Great.<\/p>\r\n
Meanwhile, the same dismissive approach was also taken towards Judea and Samaria. Hamas, unhindered, continued to arm itself and strengthen itself against us, while also becoming the most powerful political movement in the emerging state of Palestine.<\/p>\r\n
Every once in a while, the mayor of Sderot would knock on the table, the IDF would launch a temporary clearing operation, and on foot of course, our dear soldiers would enter a densely populated built-up area with a hostile population, with tweezers in hand, and with them they would have to slowly and carefully pick up the scattered murderous terrorists from the night of the women and children hiding among them.<\/p>\r\n
And we, who have become so accustomed to the policy of defending ourselves, will ignore it and hope for the best. We would be happy and rejoice at every combat movement without even asking why our soldiers are being put at risk by entering from the ground and not finishing the job from above?<\/p>\r\n
Didn't we ask what the purpose of this ground operation was? Of these priceless losses? If at the end of it we return to a situation in which Hamas is rehabilitating and arming itself for the next round, and the State of Israel is releasing all the terrorists it captured with sweat and blood?<\/p>\r\n
\u00a0Someone will have to be held accountable.<\/b><\/p>\r\n
I have no doubt that days will come when someone will have to answer for this security negligence that has brought us to this point, to the kidnapping and murder of civilians, to missiles and alarms in the heart of Israeli cities. At the risk of our soldiers, "the most moral army in the world" while fighting with human monsters, corrupt and lying terrorists.<\/p>\r\n
This morning Hamas asked for a "humanitarian ceasefire" and received it. Unilaterally, of course. We stopped shooting and they sent us to shelters in Beersheba and Ashkelon.<\/p>\r\n
Our hearts all bleed together with the hearts of the new families who have joined the bereaved family. And even though it is not the time, I want to say: the blood of our soldiers is not in vain, and if they are destined to die, then not again for the foolishness and servility of our leaders.<\/p>\r\n
Repentance includes regret for the past and acceptance for the future. No more neglecting the fire of terror that is burning under our noses. No more releasing terrorists in dubious deals, no more risking our soldiers to please a world that will not please us at all.<\/p>\r\n
