The recent publication about [Rabbi] Moti Alon caught me off guard.<\/p>\r\n
Since the thunder on a clear day in 2010 \u2013 there is no better metaphor in my opinion \u2013 when the Tekna Forum published the suspicions against him, I, too, have had difficulty accepting the verdict.<\/p>\r\n
In a column I published at the time on Ynet, I spontaneously wrote that this was not the first time we were aware of suspicions of this kind against eminent figures, "but the feeling is that it is not Rabbi Motti, not him." I simply could not accept this. I was not his student, but like many others, I followed him and listened to his words, and naturally I was fascinated.<\/p>\r\n
A good clinical psychologist would probably find that my high regard for the man helped me doubt the "furry" verdict given in court, the support of other rabbis for him, and his own vigorous denials.<\/p>\r\n
Since then, I have visited Migdal several times, hugged him more than once, talked openly with him about the affair, and my feeling that he had indeed been wronged only grew stronger. My brother-in-law, who was with me on one occasion, refused to even shake his hand, but I had a hard time accepting that. This very special man, even with a sincere effort, did not create any interaction in me for the kind of terrible acts attributed to him.<\/p>\r\n
Today, I read on Ynet that I wasn't the only one.<\/p>\r\n

"Above all, there was a stubborn refusal to believe that such great pain could come from a great personality, a soul whose entire being was a rare intensity of giving and goodness. The latest, ambiguous announcement left me speechless - but with many questions.<\/p>\r\n
What does this say about me and quite a few other people who had difficulty accepting the previous announcement of 'Tekna'? Has the man's intellect and marvelous rhetorical ability so blinded us that we have failed to discern the truth?<\/p>\r\n
Does this mean that if Rabbi Motti were less revered, captivating, and captivating, we would accept the 'Tekna' declaration without question?<\/p>\r\n
Many studies in social psychology describe 'heuristics' - biases arising from preconceptions, prior information, and prior familiarity that produce completely erroneous intuitive thoughts - with almost no ability to escape from them.<\/p>\r\n
For example, Prof. Israel Lieblich argues that state investigative committees established after a traumatic event has already occurred cannot always be objective \u2013 due to the prior knowledge that exists among its members.<\/p>\r\n
Is this the case?<\/p>\r\n
And the hardest question of all: How did Alon himself fall into the same pit again? How is it possible that such a talented, impressive, and broad-minded person - even in the opinion of his enemies - barely manages to extricate himself from the hell he experienced, and then consciously and without any minimal logic chooses to force his way back into its gates?<\/p>\r\n
