The Knesset's Interior Committee held a discussion today (Monday) on suspicions of fraud in the Bnei Brak City Council elections.<\/p>\r\n
The committee chairman, MK Yoav Kish, said at the end of the discussion: "I separate two events that occurred during the counting of the double envelope votes in Bnei Brak. The committee's secretary, Avraham Tenenboim, apparently acted within the law when he chose to announce the vote count, 20 minutes before the count - via email only, and not by phone. It's kosher, but it stinks.".<\/p>\r\n
\""The violence that broke out during the count \u2013 obviously everyone condemns it. I don't know if the violence and the chaos that arose around it affected the count. The Interior Ministry claims that it had no effect. I wasn't there and I have no idea and I can't check either. I suggest that the issue be investigated.".<\/p>\r\n
Likud representatives in the city alleged before the committee that they were not invited to the counting of the double envelope votes, and after they learned of this and arrived, their members were beaten. According to them, one suffered a fractured shoulder and the other had two broken fingers.<\/p>\r\n

Yechiel Malka<\/b>, Director of the Bnei Brak Elections Committee: "At 8:00 PM, Haim Serchuk - the Likud representative - called me that he understood that there was a vote count. I told him that we were still in the screening process and I know that you were summoned. The Elections Committee appoints someone from its own party to be the secretary of the committee. We have no side in the matter. I know that an email will be sent.".<\/p>\r\n

Yaakov Wider<\/b>"There is a war over the truth here. A council member told me: This always happens here. It is unacceptable to me. Not on my watch. Things like this shouldn't happen. Bnei Brak is not outside the law and should be conducted like in all Israeli cities. I have no trust in the municipality's business people. The municipality's secretary made obscene gestures when we submitted the Likud list. I am sorry that the mayors did not come to answer questions. I have no trust in the election results.".<\/p>\r\n
Carmit Panton<\/b>, Ministry of the Interior: "I would like to make a distinction: Yechiel ran a very orderly election campaign, including counting the soldiers' votes. The incident of violence was immediately handled by him by calling the police. It did not affect the count.".<\/p>\r\n
MK Yaakov Asher proposed establishing a subcommittee of the Interior Committee to investigate irregularities in the vote counting in all cities in the country, not just in the West Bank.<\/p>\r\n
In the committee discussion, he said: "I have known Avraham Tenenbaum for many years. For 30 years he has served as secretary of the Elections Committee and his conduct has been impeccable, and so we heard today from representatives of the Ministry of the Interior.
