The series of articles in question about the 'returners to the question', which has been airing on Channel 10 News in recent days, raises quite a few disturbing questions among the program's Haredi viewers, who watch their brothers bare-headed, shunning the burden of Torah and commandments, and perceiving their religious lives as a passing, unnecessary, and purposeless chapter in their lives. Is it true? Is the 'returners to the question' movement so large, and so deep-rooted? What is happening there?<\/p>\r\n
The 'Question Marks' series is not over yet, but in contrast to this program, the polarizing documentary series "Returning Forward" aired on Channel One, which describes the conversion of artists in Israel, such as Golan Azoulay, Sharon Rutter, Gala Kagan, Danny Steg, Leah Shabat, and more, and their journey into the bosom of Judaism, has surfaced and emerged almost forcibly.<\/p>\r\n
A comparative look at the two series, which deal with basically the same topic: a shift in the religious element in people's lives, cannot help but raise a number of dichotomous differences that cannot be ignored:<\/p>\r\n

A television series, of course, also depends on the producer and director who chose how to cover the subject, and this cannot be ignored either, but nevertheless it seems possible to state that no one has ever repented in order to "free themselves from the suffocation." Likewise, no one has ever said that they are better off in their life as Torah and mitzvot keepers, and in any case they have chosen to raise the issue because they are "looking for meaning.".<\/p>\r\n
The gap between the two populations may, on the one hand, serve as a kind of 'slap on the back' for us, and teach us what we already know, that 'the ways of God are straight,' so that even older people for whom changing their lifestyle is almost impossible are willing to do so for the sake of a life of Torah and mitzvot.<\/p>\r\n
But on the other hand, our soul-searching must go deep, deep, to the point of soul-wrenching: How is it that there are people among us who feel suffocated? That righteous and innocent Torah of God - how has it become the poison of death?<\/p>\r\n
It is precisely the young people who, for a variety of reasons, are unsure of their path, who would expect that we, as a moral society, would be able to provide a Torah-based life experience full of joy, in the sense of "So-and-so who has studied Torah - how beautiful are his deeds.".<\/p>\r\n
And that's where we failed.
