The recent series of sad events leads me to one clear conclusion: We must separate religion from politics. Why? I would like to take you back to the days before the kidnapping of the yeshiva students, to the days when the religious and ultra-Orthodox public was conflicted and divided as never before.<\/p>\r\n
The fire of hatred and controversy was fanned by the newspapers, which deliberately took care to call the religious public with the derogatory title of "the Jewish public." They presented them as persecutors of religion and the Torah. They called them Amalek - a house of Gentiles.<\/p>\r\n
Then came the terrible kidnapping and suddenly we were all one man. Shoulder to shoulder we stood together in cry and prayer, tearing the sky apart in a plea for the boys to return home.<\/p>\r\n
Painful and sorrowful mothers face the great trial, perhaps the greatest that a person can endure, with fortitude and strength never seen before, and above all, they radiate a pure, pure, and true faith in the Creator of the world.<\/p>\r\n
A mother, who, upon leaving a prayer rally for her son's peace, approaches a group of children and encourages them that even if, God forbid, the story ends badly, they should not complain to the Holy One, Blessed be He, because "even a father is allowed to say no," and "God does not work with us.".<\/p>\r\n
Photos of the boys show yeshiva students, immigrants, who have stuck notes on their stands in the Beit Midrash, stating in which areas they need to strengthen and which qualities they need to work on more.<\/p>\r\n
These days, monitoring families and the religious and ultra-Orthodox public join hands like this \u2013 this is monitoring a living moral book. Nothing less.<\/p>\r\n
I look at things and wonder \u2013 if this is what an Amalek and a house of Gentiles look like \u2013 what does a Jew look like?<\/p>\r\n
These things lead me to the conclusion \u2013 let\u2019s separate religion from politics! True. Politically there are disagreements. But the religious public is not an enemy of the Haredi and vice versa. We are brotherly people. Haredi politics goes against the religious one on the basis of political appointments. Why were they appointed? Why are they in the coalition while we, the natural partners, find ourselves outside? The destruction begins when there is a spillover from the political field to the public field. Suddenly the entire public is alienated due to disgust. This is our great disaster.<\/p>\r\n
History repeats itself.<\/b><\/p>\r\n
This week's parashah we read last Shabbat tells of perhaps the most well-known controversy in the history of the Jewish people.<\/p>\r\n
There too, the dispute between Korah and his council began over a political appointment. Korah came to Moses with a complaint about appointing Aaron as priest: Why do you appoint him, Korah complains, and not me, the natural partner? Aaron is with you in the coalition only because he is a "brother" and not because he deserves it.<\/p>\r\n
The end of the dispute is known to all, Korach and his group were swallowed up by the earth, and according to the Gemara in the Sanhedrin, they stand there and cry out, "Moses is true and his Torah is true" - for the moment you detach yourself from political considerations and look at one thing, "his Torah is true," you understand that the Torah is one Torah, the words of God are alive, and it doesn't matter what color the kippah on your head is.<\/p>\r\n
In recent days, there have been requests to strengthen a number of things that will benefit the youth. In my opinion, this unity today is one of the most critical calls that we all need to listen to, and I am confident that it will stand up to their credit.<\/p>\r\n
