In the cycle of the year and throughout life, there are moments that are worth preserving and commemorating. Such, for example, is the moment or moments in which all of your people, the House of Israel, unite in prayer and supplication, in the face of trouble or adversity. Three young men, Eyal, Naftali, and Gilad, were kidnapped and imprisoned by the sons of wickedness, and immediately all of Judaism mobilizes together as one, without distinction of sect or type of kippah, to pray and beg the Creator of the worlds to release the imprisoned and redeem the captives quickly.<\/p>\r\n
I was there, at the large rally on Saturday night that took place at the Western Wall. I was there and I was moved. Thousands of people in perfect harmony, of a boy and an adult, of a Gretel and a tie, a knitted kippah and a Hamburg, who joined together in one voice, the voice of the children of Israel who are protesting against three brothers, because they are our blood and flesh. The headlines of newspapers in Israel and around the world, almost for the most part, referred to the prayer and solidarity rallies and noted with appreciation the unity of the Jewish people in a time of trouble.<\/p>\r\n
But precisely from the positive light, precisely from the great unity that prevails in our community these days, I allow myself to raise a painful and bleeding point, which wounds the inner layer of the "Jewish public." In recent days, I have spoken with quite a few people who belong to the Haredi public, among them Torah scholars. At the end of every conversation and also at the beginning of it, the constant statements along the lines of: "Well, let's get strong," or "Our strength is only in our mouths, we need to pray." It is moving.<\/p>\r\n
And what if they were from Ponivezh and Hebron?<\/b><\/p>\r\n
Indeed, the Haredi public is mobilized for the most part through prayer and supplication, and there is hardly a minyan that does not end with a chapter of Psalms or two recited intentionally by the public, in prayer for the immediate release of the kidnapped. We are blessed.<\/p>\r\n
But what would have happened if, in this terrible situation, the characters had switched and instead of Eyal, "Israel Meir Katzburg" from the Hebron Yeshiva had hitchhiked, and Naftali Frankel's place had been taken by "Avraham Yeshayahu Godlevsky" from the Ponevezh Yeshiva, and they had been joined running by "Yosef Chaim Abutbul" from the Ovadia Vision. Where would we have been then? Would we have clucked our tongues and hoped for the best in such a case, please God? Would we have said "Brothers, all the house of Israel" after the evening prayer and everyone would have hurried on their way?<\/p>\r\n
Let me assume not.<\/p>\r\n
Yehuda Meshi Zahav would organize the real million-strong rally for us. Yeshiva leaders would tearfully call on the entire public to burst open the gates of heaven and tear apart the skies. And most importantly, we would know by heart, literally by heart, the full names of the three kidnapped people.<\/p>\r\n
Shame, disgrace, and a shame for us that most of us don't really remember who is Ben Toshora and who is the other Ben Bat Galim.<\/p>\r\n
How can you forget the names?<\/b><\/p>\r\n
How many of the readers can put their hand on their heart and say with certainty that the names of the yeshiva students are engraved on their tongues morning and evening? Who really believes that the claim that "it is impossible to remember the names of three young men" is a true and acceptable claim? Incidentally, we all remembered the names of the two Gross family children by heart.<\/p>\r\n
So, yes, we are interested, we ask, we pray. But isn't there more to this than an interesting "drama?" Isn't our growing interest due to the tension and anxiety in each new episode? Or maybe it's the adrenaline that's left in our minds from the race for the presidency?<\/p>\r\n
Yaakov Naftali ben Rachel, Gil-Ad Michael ben Bat Galim and Eyal ben Iris Tishura. They are brothers! Exactly, but just like Yisrael Meir, Avraimi and Yosef Chaim, yeshiva students.<\/p>\r\n
Order 8 is already waiting for you. On the stand<\/strong><\/p>\r\n These days, reports are being received about 8 orders being sent to reserve soldiers. We, ostensibly, have no part in this. After all, we "set our seats here in the Beit Midrash.".<\/p>\r\n But this is a mistake.<\/p>\r\n Indeed, a personal 8th decree for every yeshivah member and abbot is now waiting in their personal mailbox. A decree that commands them to attack the Gemara with greater intensity, to occupy another 'hour' that has been burned, and to devote more 'work of virtue' to the benefit of the campaign. If we truly believe that the world exists only by virtue of Torah, then by evading even one of its provisions, we are worse than the beasts of the field.<\/p>\r\n At such a time, it is our right, but also our duty, to polish the weapons in our possession, check the cartridges, and fight.
