I am not used to publishing columns from my own pen on such large public platforms, and yet I feel that the time we are in does not allow even 'ordinary people' like me to remain cooped up in their homes and not express their outcry.<\/p>\r\n
In recent weeks and months, young Haredi people - the 'Jerusalem faction' protesters - have been flooding the country's roads, turning our lives into a nightmare, and most importantly, presenting us, ordinary Haredim, in a light in which we would not want to be seen.<\/p>\r\n
I have nothing, and I assume that many in the camp I'm abstaining from, against the people of the "fragment." These are fearful people who are interested in uniting around an idea and around rabbis - and that's a legitimate thing.<\/p>\r\n
I also think it's good to have different streams. Sometimes it's even healthy. Representatives in the municipality and in the Knesset on their behalf are also important.<\/p>\r\n
But as long as it doesn't come at my expense. At the expense of my children.<\/p>\r\n
People are allowed to come together, believe in an idea, present it, and fight for it. However, you cannot take an entire country, as well as a huge Haredi public, hostage.<\/p>\r\n
We can't get to work, tens of thousands of citizens are stuck in traffic jams, children are late for school, and the songs and dances of the protesters in the streets present us as people who believe in this path \u2013 demonstrating and confronting the police.<\/p>\r\n
We are not like that, and we are not willing to be turned into like that.<\/p>\r\n
So the protesters go out to dance in the streets and disrupt traffic, and it seems that no logic or rational argument reaches their ears.<\/p>\r\n
They are not willing to listen, and it is impossible to talk to them. They are busy with their holy war, and their lives going wrong don't really bother them.<\/p>\r\n
What can we do?<\/p>\r\n
The idea I want to present is very simple.<\/p>\r\n
Sending inspectors to their yeshivas and kollels during the protests. When the formal government representatives visit institutions funded by the state, with your and my tax dollars, and see that they are emptied, and that their students have taken to the streets, they will immediately recommend stopping the budget for the institutions.<\/p>\r\n
They will have no choice \u2013 after all, the students are not in the institution.<\/p>\r\n
So, I dare say, the young protesters will very quickly return to the benches, the streets will empty, and the struggle, which is just from their perspective, will once again be sane and normal.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Livni Sussman, a Jew who works for a living, is tired of the disruption of life and the dancing in the streets by the young people from the 'Jerusalem Faction' camp.
