Nahalat Shiva neighborhood. One step before 'Yoel Moshe Salomon' Street, there is a small, not particularly colorful sign: an arrow that directed me to a narrow passage, at the end of which is a large Jerusalem courtyard. In front of me appeared the restaurant, cafe, and bookstore 'Tamol Shloshom' - named after the book by the author Shai Agnon.<\/p>\r\n
''The day before yesterday' is located in a small, somewhat picturesque Jerusalem courtyard. Jerusalem stones, more than a century old, adorn the restaurant's walls, and on them are shelves full of books for the convenience of customers who leaf through them while dining. The waitress asked if I wanted to order. I preferred to wait until my friend Ruby arrived. In the meantime, I glanced at the menu.<\/p>\r\n
The menu included various soups, pastas, sandwiches, and more. But what caught my eye were the variety of types of shakshuka that filled it. To my question, a waitress replied: "The shakshuka dish - it's been heard from afar and was even chosen as one of the ten best breakfasts in the world by Lonely Planet magazine." In the meantime, the chair across from me was taken and before Robbie could begin to share his story with me, I announced that I was ordering shakshuka.<\/p>\r\n
Robbie looked at the 'new' menu, the waitress said that the restaurant's chef had recently been replaced for the purpose of refreshing, after 14 years, with a new chef, who goes by the name Silvio Nadel, who brought with him a new menu, and decided to go for the 'Three Angels', that is: three types of soups served in cups with homemade bread. The dishes arrived, the shakshuka was served in a hot personal frying pan with two eggs in a rich tomato sauce, slices of goat cheese and roasted peppers. But it didn't come alone, a chopped homemade salad and fresh gefatta were served alongside it.<\/p>\r\n
The soups that Ruby received were pumpkin and cream soup, mushroom and grits soup, and vegetable soup. All three soups were good, but the one that surprised and was the most successful was, surprisingly, the wonderful vegetable soup. And the shakshuka, oh the shakshuka, it justified every word written about it in the international magazine 'Lonely Planet'. A simply delightful dish, both in appearance and especially in taste.<\/p>\r\n
The next dish could have been ravioli or pasta. I preferred to order something safe, tagliatelle pasta with tomato and basil sauce. I shared the dish with Robbie, which was large and varied, but the more interesting detail was the plate the pasta was served on - there were writings and sentences on it that helped me finish the dish quickly just to read what was written on it.<\/p>\r\n
That's it, I'm done. But dessert is something I always have a hard time giving up. We ordered a warm, soft chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream (Ben & Jerry's), and a cup of hot orchid that was thick and precise, the ground nuts, coconut and cinnamon added to the texture the Jerusalem winter atmosphere that I enjoy so much.<\/p>\r\n
