For many days, the country held its breath. After news of her leaving home and disappearance became known, the people of Israel closely followed the search for Esti Weinstein, the mother of 7 daughters whose whereabouts were unknown.<\/p>\r\n
Leaving behind a letter and starting her car, Esti sets off, leaving behind a lot of question marks and one unsolved mystery. Where is she?<\/p>\r\n
Days passed, and the horror became clear. Esti ended her life, somewhere, on one of the beaches of Ashdod. The grief of being separated from her children was unbearable, and she could no longer continue with her life.<\/p>\r\n
I was at her funeral, both the first part dedicated to the secular public and the flowers, and the second part, which was attended by her Haredi family members. It was sad. From my perspective, it was the first time that the people of Israel realized that these ugly stories, which take place within the family or within Hasidism, have chilling implications.<\/p>\r\n
This was the first time that many people were struck by the insight that they needed to be vigilant, to pay attention to people lying mentally wounded on the side of the road, to unreasonable phenomena that sometimes grow even in the beds of the ultra-Orthodox public.<\/p>\r\n
In my opinion, the Esti Weinstein affair was the watershed. Society's attitude to cases such as the ones she went through will not be the same the day after.
