The 2017 school year opened as usual, with Israeli students returning to their studies, but there are three exceptional groups.<\/p>\r\n
The first group - to which I belong - are sick students who, due to illness, stay at home. Also, as I wrote in my previous column, Haredi students generally do not benefit from the benefit of being eligible for free homeschooling, due to lack of awareness.<\/p>\r\n
But it turns out that there are those who are healthy and stay home, and that's before I even touch on the issue of discrimination.<\/p>\r\n
And this is of course the second group: In the State of Israel there is a compulsory education law, but it turns out that there are those who are certain that they know what is best for their children and, according to their approach, do not send their child to school, because they believe that home education is recommended.<\/p>\r\n
The Ministry of Education, due to the overload in the system, will turn a blind eye and occasionally send an officer to make a regular visit to the home, who will do no more than check that there is no neglect.<\/p>\r\n
This approach believes that a parent has an absolute right over their child, (and by the way, I've known such Haredi families) so who are we to interfere? I'll ask for their forgiveness, but I think it's my duty to intervene.<\/p>\r\n
I am convinced that approximately 951% of the students who will be homeschooled will lag behind those who study in an educational institution, because most of the time, the studies will not be delivered by qualified teachers, which will of course lead to a poor academic level, and this is in addition to the difficult social problem created for a child who spends his entire life alone.<\/p>\r\n
I don't necessarily agree with every opinion because it's the prevailing opinion, but in this case I tend to follow the same path, I believe that parents who do this to their children are doing them an injustice. I know the feeling well as someone who is starting their third year of homeschooling, it's a terrible feeling of loneliness, there's no reason a child shouldn't spend time and have interpersonal communication with their peers. It's worth following the same path here.<\/p>\r\n
There are 51% of students who will succeed, and better than at school. School causes a lot of competition among students, there is no personal relationship between teacher and student at school, and a host of other problems that have long accompanied the education system, but the chances are that the child who studies at home will come out on top, both socially and academically.<\/p>\r\n
If you still decide to 'homeschool', do it with qualified teachers...<\/p>\r\n
And hence to the third and crying group, the Spanish girls who stayed in their house.<\/p>\r\n
I can't hear any more about this thing where girls sit at home and cry, and supposedly no one is moved by it because we've been used to hearing about it for years, and there's a kind of tacit consent to injustices here. Where's the big, bitter outcry?!<\/p>\r\n
Where is your mercy?!<\/p>\r\n
To remind you - because I think we've forgotten - we are in the month of Elul, the month of mercy and forgiveness.
