It&#039;s no wonder that every year the number of people taking the matriculation exam drops by 5 units. Every year the books get bigger and bigger instead of being focused.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><strong>2<\/strong>.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">In all the &quot;stress&quot; I&#039;m in, I saw, or rather heard, a discussion on Channel 10 about the Women of the Western Wall, who were a major topic of interest this week. I thought to myself, who are these women? No one knows who they are, apparently. Even the panelists were divided in their opinions, one says they are Reform, and the other says they are Orthodox. To be honest, I&#039;m not even sure anymore who they are, how many there are, what they are, what their purpose is?<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Laying down tefillin, wrapping oneself in tefillin, a platform for Reform? No one gives focused answers because the hidden answer is very simple: their goal is to provoke. I was surprised that they claim to be Orthodox. The first time they made headlines, before I converted, I was sure they were Reform. To say they were Orthodox is simply to insult people&#039;s intelligence.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">So, those women who, on the one hand, are being reviled, both by the secular and the ultra-Orthodox, are also receiving support, claiming: &quot;Finally, women don&#039;t have to climb onto a chair at a bar mitzvah to see their son and cover themselves with a dirty cloth&quot; - a quote from a panel on Channel 10 that made me leave my business for a few minutes.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">But none of that really matters. The Women of the Western Wall will always be remembered as a symbol of provocation. No, you are not Orthodox, not &quot;suffragists,&quot; and you are not fighting for &quot;oppressed women,&quot; or for the advancement of women&#039;s status. You are simply fighting for the theft of a Torah scroll, and this in order to make headlines every Rosh Chodesh.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">Want to put on tefillin? Please: There is no prohibition against women putting on tefillin and wearing a tallit, but if they do so, they must be as careful about it on a daily basis as men, and about body cleanliness. Therefore, they are exempt. The Gemara says that Michal, daughter of Shaul, would put on tefillin &quot;and the sages did not object to it&quot; (Bavli, Tractate Eruvin Tzu, 1). In general, there have been several other righteous women throughout history who put on tefillin: Rashi&#039;s daughters, Hannah Rachel and Rav Macher, and more.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><strong>3.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">But the Women of the Western Wall also did not come to fight for a woman&#039;s right to wear tefillin, and what am I even talking about? Maybe I&#039;m giving them treatment they don&#039;t deserve, and maybe we Haredim are to blame for giving them treatment? That&#039;s a good question, and I believe that the treatment they received was indeed unnecessary, and constitutes a loss for us.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">At the end of the day, the Women of the Western Wall won. We can say this out loud! A handful of disturbed women who really, really do not represent the rest of the women of secular Israeli society, and are also really not supported by the majority of Israeli society, made a provocation that will probably be learned about for generations to come, and we talk about this provocation constantly, while I am currently actually contributing to it.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">So yes, we must memorize: provocation wins, just as journalists write provocative articles, or people on Facebook and other social networks do things that would be unthinkable in a civilized society and garner attention from all sides and become famous through it, so too do the Women of the Western Wall, feeding off the circus they have produced.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\"><strong>4.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">So what&#039;s the bottom line? If everyone ignored provocative actions and people - the provocation would disappear. Because provocation is only done out of a strong desire for attention.<\/p>\r\n<p dir=\"RTL\">So if you want to participate in the struggle, simply ignore the provocation and it will disappear and pass away. Hence the advice to MKs: if you are already using provocation, learn to use it for noble purposes.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Who are the Women of the Wall anyway?
