When the official results were announced, it became clear that the far-right National Front party, led by Marine Le Pen, had achieved the greatest achievement in its history: the candidates nominated by the party are expected to head at least seven municipalities.<\/p>\r\n
In light of the dramatic move by members of his government, President Hollande announced - in a special televised speech - that Interior Minister Manuel Valls would be the next prime minister. Valls replaces Jean-Marc Ayrault, who, despite having administrative skills, suffers from a poor public image, partly due to his association with President Hollande's tax policies.<\/p>\r\n
