Shelley Cowley, like many women in her situation, arrived at the hospital in her ninth month of pregnancy, and like many other mothers, was admitted for a cesarean section.<\/p>\r\n
Shelly was given full anesthesia, and the baby was born whole and healthy. Only then did it become clear that Shelly would not wake up. The doctors tried to wake her up in every possible way, but Shelly simply fell into a coma.<\/p>\r\n
With a heavy heart, the doctors informed the new husband and father that his wife would likely remain in a coma, most likely forever.<\/p>\r\n
But then an idea came to one of the nurses: she suggested placing the newborn baby on her mother.<\/p>\r\n
\""We have many studies that show that contact between mother and baby may benefit both the mother and the baby, and in general the bond between them," the nurse told People magazine.<\/p>\r\n
The baby was placed on mine, and the doctors began to tickle her, pinch her, to make her start crying. And indeed, the baby burst into tears and the mother's indicators, in a true medical miracle, began to soar within seconds: blood pressure, pulse, and blood oxygen percentage.<\/p>\r\n
After about a week, the mother woke up completely, and today - a year later - she is completely healthy.<\/p>\r\n
