At the time, and I'm not talking about the period of the Spanish Exile, opinions in the State of Israel were known in a clear, almost dichotomous way: there were people on the left who belonged to the 'Maa'arach movement, and on the other hand people on the right - the 'Likudniks' as they were called. Besides them, of course, there were people from the Haredi and traditional religious world who voted according to the dictates of their divine conscience. The results, which then divided voters into clear blocs, also made it easier for the leaders, who knew very well who they were fighting for and what the platform of the party they headed was.<\/p>\r\n
But recently, and especially in the current election campaign, things have changed. The Israeli public's all-too-familiar narrative has shed its skin, one step after morality shed its legs.<\/p>\r\n
If in the previous term it was Yair Lapid's party that broke the myth of a 'wise and wise people,' now, in these troubling election days, we are witnessing a terrible syndrome that is elegantly taking over our lives - the herd syndrome.<\/p>\r\n
Think about it, a man suddenly wakes up in the morning and decides to form a party. So far, everything is well and good, but what happens next is a bit puzzling. The man's platform is not laid out before the voters, his political views are unknown (not even to himself), and his views on issues of security, economy, and leadership are also shrouded in a thick fog.<\/p>\r\n
And if that's not enough, even the list, the one that will be chosen by intelligent people, and whose members will probably serve as senior ministers, is kept a closely guarded secret. All these frightening figures, not only do not leave the man and his family at home, warm and cozy under his blankets, but on the contrary, in a delusional and unlikely way, the man receives no less than fifteen seats in the public opinion polls. If this is not herd syndrome, tell me what a herd is.<\/p>\r\n
I would like to ask, just ask, those friends, who are healthy in spirit, who are engaged in earning their living and managing their homes wisely and logically, about half a million people soon, those who have been surveyed as voters for the Trend Party time and time again. Tell me \u2013 what is your political opinion, what is your opinion on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, what is your position on the issue of the conscription of yeshiva students and what is your opinion on foreign and security issues? You obviously have an opinion, otherwise what are you doing at the Shabbat table?! Only here have you disappeared and gone silent? - Are you only interested in cellular prices?! I wonder<\/p>\r\n
Elazar Stern - The Pendulum<\/strong><\/p>\r\n Wait, that's not all. This week, it was reported in the media that General Stern, the man with the kippah, the man with self-hatred, one of the greatest anti-religious lawmakers in Israeli history. \u2013 The one who was elegantly dismissed by the head of his party and left alone and humiliated like a juniper in the steppe on a dry day, is 'considering' joining the Yisrael Beiteinu party.<\/p>\r\n Is everything clear so far? From the "movement" whose political views were presented as center-left to a party perceived as the most right-wing on the coalition scale? A day later, it was announced that the retired major general was actually in talks with the Yesh Atid party, which apparently did not come to fruition, as the wandering Jew was offered a clearly unrealistic place (after tenth on the list).<\/p>\r\n This whole shameful turn was made after, according to another news source, Stern tried to 'be accepted' as a member of that trend party that was mentioned a few lines before you in the first puzzlement, and was not accepted, I wonder why.<\/p>\r\n So, there's no big question about the retired major general. You only receive a pension from the Knesset after two terms, and it's only natural that a respectable person would worry about his financial future. You know, the deals on assisted living today are not great. There's also no doubt about the party leaders who accept his proposals with interest and show some willingness. After all, they're worried about the security expert in the party, the one who will be the defense minister in the government they form.<\/p>\r\n But the public. Lord of the world \u2013 the public, the one who votes for a particular party because of its opinion or lack of opinion. The ones who choose a leader based on his views or his combed hair. Don't you care who is thirsty on the list that you choose?
