I haven't heard a word about other issues lately, because of Shas: Judaism, Mizrahi, heritage. I haven't even heard any juicy attacks against Lapid. I've only heard about Aryeh Deri and Eli Yishai.

When I started to relive it, I discovered that, in fact, this is what I've been hearing about for almost twenty years. It's both funny and sad. Think about where you were during the Deri trial and how many things have happened and changed since then, both for you personally and in the wider world around you. I, for example, remember these two individuals in that charged relationship when I was a young boy. In the news that came over the radio in our kitchen in the morning, there was already talk about the tension in the Shas leadership.

This continued to be the soundtrack to the news in Israel even when I was in yeshiva. There I was less connected to the news, but everyone knew that this was what was happening in politics – Deri Vishyi. Then I went to the army. On the radio that I listened to on the way to the base, on hitchhikes and on buses, they continued to cover Shas through this prism only. The years continued to pass. Today I am married and a father of five, thank God, and the main headline in Shas is – you guessed it – Deri Vishyi. Now do this exercise yourself. How many apartments have you moved into with Yishyi and Deri in the background? How many jobs have you changed? True, each time it is presented from a slightly different angle ("Deri will resign!", "Yishyi will resign!", "Deri will establish a party!", "Yishyi will establish a party!") but it is always the same materials, the same "Deri associates" and "Yishyi associates" who speak, the same reporters and commentators who write and who comment.

And what about Deri and Vyshy themselves? They, too, are already having children. They are already grandfathers, for God's sake. It's not unreasonable to imagine that in another twenty or thirty years we will hear on the news that in the "Ateret Ovadia" nursing home, the two residents, Aryeh and Eli, continue to argue, and our political correspondent will immediately update us on the consequences.

Everyone is talking about Eli Yishai, but what's actually happening with his party? There was some momentum in the early days, with a press conference and MK Yoni Shtavun joining, but what now? So okay, Uri Ariel isn't coming, but are you going for it, in general, for a religious-Haredi-right-wing party? There's a feeling that despite the potential in the air, the guys there are a bit lethargic. Apart from a nice picture of the two of them, without suits, with the caption "All the kippahs, all the denominations," we still haven't heard enough about the 'Yachad' party. What's going on? There's no platform, no new stars, not many conferences in the field. We haven't even gotten to see stupid online campaigns like the other parties.

Everyone is talking about Tzipi Livni, but what about talking about the four MKs she abandoned? If you are right-wing and religious, you are not allowed to use the word "traitor," so let's try to find other definitions of what Tzipi Livni did to the members of the "Movement." Well, one day she found a new party and simply left them behind, sighing. While the public discourse was only about her personal defection to "Labor," I didn't see anyone dwell for a moment on her betrayal (well, sorry, desertion) of those who were until a moment ago her loyal partners in the party. On the way to the "Zionist Camp," she left an entire camp of MKs from the movement by the wayside. In other words, it's not just that Livni is switching parties serially, she is also abandoning confused MKs who have no idea where to go from here.

And she doesn't even inform them in advance, so that they have time to arrange a job for themselves or retire early, with dignity. I couldn't believe it was happening to me, but when I heard Elazar Stern say last week that he was looking for a new political home for himself – I was filled with compassion. The other members simply gave up. One after another, Amram Mitzna, Meir Sheetrit and David Tzur announced their retirement from politics this week, but Livni actually retired them.

Livni is truly an enigma. Sometimes I think she may have some ancestral right or special divine help. How is it that after all her exploits, no blemish clings to her? How does it go by so quietly, smoothly? Alex Goldfarb entered history thanks to the dubious Mitsubishi, the concept of "Calanthrism" was invented for Rahamim Calanthar, and Tzipi-Likud-Kadima-Hatunova-Avoda-Livni is still considered the white hope.

Everyone is talking about the videos of Naftali Bennett and Yinon Magal, but no one is talking about what is happening in the backyard of the Jewish Home. I'm talking about the really tough arena - the weekly parashat pamphlets. There have always been too many ads and news, but in recent Shabbats you finish leafing through the pamphlets and are left with one question: What is the weekly parashat pamphlet?

This week, with the end of the Likud primaries, the sectoral advertising arena is left open only to the Jewish Home candidates, and you can count on them to take over. In two weeks, that too will be over, and then, God willing, the real estate ads and the deals for Seder night with Shaul Meizlish will return.

So what are the conclusions from all these campaigns so far? That there are a lot of council heads in Yesha and it seems that they support any candidate who applies. That Avichai Boaron has become a bigger star than Yeshi Ribo. That Ayelet Shaked published an "approval" for Rabbi Rontzky's run, and reminded me that once upon a time candidates would ask for signatures from rabbis, but today it's the other way around. Also, that Feiglin has new, fashionable glasses. And it's hard to just go through the day's agenda like that. It can really throw you off concentration during Shabbat morning prayers. After he says goodbye to the round glasses that accompanied him back in the Oslo days, I expect him to write a reasoned article soon that will explain to me the connection between these glasses and freedom, sovereignty, and the Temple Mount.

On the right side of the picture, with a cowboy hat and ponytail: Ilan Tenenbaum, originally from Kibbutz Usha and now a resident of Netzer Hazani. Ilan, a kibbutznik, a tour guide, is a convert. On the left side of the picture: Rabbi Yechiel Yaish, the new rabbi of Netzer Hazani.

On the eighth day of Hanukkah, a new synagogue was dedicated in this community in the Nahal Sorek Regional Council, and a new rabbi was also appointed to the community. The people of Netzer Hazani lost their home and their small temple in the disengagement about nine years ago, and lost their previous rabbi, Rabbi Yitzhak Arama, in the attack on the Kissufim highway twelve years ago. And Ilan, precisely Ilan, was chosen to give a blessing on behalf of the community on this occasion.

""About nine and a half years ago, we stood together in the square of our holy and precious synagogue," he began, "the sun was already beginning to set and the soldiers in black uniforms were already losing patience, and we, exhausted and tired after what was perhaps the hardest day of our lives, with red eyes that had already shed all the tears they could, realized that we had lost the fight of our lives and that these were our last minutes in the cantorial camp. Just before they were about to load us onto the buses, we decided to get up and march to Rabbi Yitzhak Arama's house. And so, carrying Torah scrolls, children, women and infants, we all walked the white path leading to the Rabbi's house. We stood there in silence in front of the wooden door of the office where he used to sit and study Torah.

A stranger would not understand this, but we knew that we were saying goodbye to the place that marked the path for us and through which we received strength and power to deal with both those difficult days and the days that would come later. We never returned to the synagogue. We left it behind, abandoned in the hands of unjust murderers. The walls of this holy building absorbed all the memories we had experienced over the years. The joys, the good days and the difficult days we had spent in our lives in Nazar, all the prayers that came from the depths of our hearts, the melodies and songs. We did everything we knew how to do to stop and prevent the destruction and the blasphemy that followed, but we failed. Our synagogue was handed over to our impure enemies and they, with shouts of victory, desecrated, desecrated and destroyed it. We carry our suffering in our hearts, we will no longer cry over the property and livelihood we lost, and we will cherish the memories. But the sight of the Arab mob celebrating on the roofs of synagogues, axes in their hands, will forever be a debt to the State of Israel.

""Today, nine and a half years after those days, we stand and dedicate the synagogue in the new settlement. We felt an obligation to rise up and build a structure that would be a correction, at least partial, for the blasphemy that occurred. The structure is loaded with hints that symbolize unity and memories and is full of our feelings, which we did not know how to express in words. The dream and prayer that we will return to the sands and land of Gush Katif is also part of this structure.".

During the days of struggle, there was a song that was carried in the air and sung over and over again from the depths of our hearts with tears. After the expulsion, the charged memories and pain did not allow us to sing this song again. It has never been sung again, since then to this day. The children of the settlement do not know it, but if we sing it again here, tears will come to people's eyes. On the walls of the synagogue, on the right and left, some of its words were engraved out of a desire to remember the prayers we offered then, the strengths and feelings, prayers that were surely heard there on high and certainly did not go in vain. 'A prayer for the poor, for he will be wrapped up and before the Lord his voice will be poured out, the Lord has heard my prayer and my cry to you will come, do not hide your face from me in the day of my distress.' Our faith in the Creator of the world was not damaged by the hiding of the face we experienced, and was even strengthened, for 'In Netzer we believe in the Holy One, blessed be He, with complete faith,' as was written by the youth on the gate of the settlement that was set ablaze. On the long road we traveled, God accompanied us hand in hand and with His grace He helped us and we established a beautiful and pleasant settlement, and we pray and dream that He will also help us return to the golden sands.

""Rabbi Yechiel, your arrival among us, and the binding status we hold today, are not simple for us and are not at all self-evident. It is difficult to define the feelings we feel on this day, but great excitement is certainly part of them. I would like to conclude with words from a poem by Naomi Shemer based on the words of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov: 'Know that every shepherd has his own special melody.' Rabbi Yechiel, on behalf of the Netzer Hazani community, we welcome you as our rabbi and teacher with joy and love, and pray that you will succeed in your path, that you will be a faithful shepherd to the flock, and that the singing of the herbs will be wise and succeed in making a shepherd's melody.".

• The column is published in the newspaper 'Bisheva''

Do this exercise for yourself: How many apartments have you moved into with Yishai and Deri in the background?
