Last week, the State Attorney's Office filed an indictment with the Central Lod District Court against Daniel Yavchenko (21) for the reckless death of the late police officer Yaniv Elkayim in a fatal car accident in Netanya about a year ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The indictment filed by Attorney Yael Tarm of the Central District Attorney's Office states that Yaniv, along with another policewoman, stopped a vehicle that had committed a traffic violation in a police car as part of their duties, and during the enforcement activity, Yaniv stood next to the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At that time, Yevchenko was driving a Mercedes at excessive speed, swerving sharply between lanes and making dangerous overtaking maneuvers. During his reckless driving, he crashed into the vehicle next to which the late Yaniv was standing, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The driver of the vehicle was injured and treated at the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the indictment, the prosecution stated that by his actions, the defendant caused the death of the police officer in the performance of his duties, after driving at a speed exceeding the permitted speed limit, swerving between lanes in a manner that endangered road users, and taking an unreasonable risk of possibly causing the death of a person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The indictment accuses Livchenko of committing the offenses of reckless homicide and reckless driving that caused a traffic accident in which a person was injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
