The detention of the four suspects in the stun grenade attack on the homes of family members and associates of a well-known Haredi businessman from Ashdod has been extended once again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a report by Shimon Ifergan on the 'Mako' website, the police are increasingly suspicious that the background to the threats is debts of millions of shekels that the businessman accumulated on the gray market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The details of the investigation indicate that an ultra-Orthodox businessman, who had run a well-known business for years, ran into financial difficulties. It is suspected that he took out loans totaling millions of shekels from various sources - including the gray market - in an attempt to save the business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, when he was unable to meet his debt repayments, he left Israel a few months ago with his wife and children and moved to the United States, where he went "under the radar" in an attempt to avoid meeting his creditors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police are investigating a suspicion that after the businessman's family members returned to Israel, they were marked as targets - in an attempt to put pressure on him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this context, stun grenades were allegedly thrown at the homes of several of his relatives, who live in the city's ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods, within a day's time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an investigation conducted by the Ashdod station, four suspects were arrested: two of them, residents of Holon, were arrested in an apartment in the city of Ashdod. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the court hearings, investigators claimed that they had evidence linking at least one of the suspects to the scenes of the events, including documentation of a motorcycle registered in his name - which appeared to have fled the scene after one of the grenades was thrown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
