The Military Prosecution filed an indictment today (Tuesday) against two regular service soldiers, residents of the north, following the theft of weapons and ammunition from IDF bases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The indictment was filed after officers from the Coastal District Central Unit and the Special Investigations Unit of the Military Police launched a joint investigation into several cases of weapons theft from IDF bases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the end of a complex investigation, using special tools, the investigators were able to reveal the identities of the suspects in the acts and arrest them - two regular soldiers - and an indictment was filed with the District Military Court, charging them with a series of serious weapons offenses, primarily removing weapons from military possession and trafficking in weapons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the indictment and the investigation, over a period of several months, the main defendant in the case, who serves in a technical position in a combat battalion, took advantage of his access to tents where combat soldiers slept in the battalion, and stole three M-4 assault rifles belonging to the fighters. In another incident, the defendant took a 'Mag' machine gun, which was placed in a military vehicle in assembly areas as part of the battalion's readiness for operational activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the indictment, three of the thefts were committed together with another soldier, a friend of the defendant, who does not serve with him in the battalion. It is also described that the defendants sold three of the stolen weapons together, for over 100,000 NIS on each occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The defendants are also accused of taking thousands of rounds of ammunition from the army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The main defendant in the case is also accused of repeated attempts to persuade another soldier, who serves with him, to steal ammunition and military weapons from the fighting forces, in exchange for money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
