The faction members expressed deep pain over a situation in which our chosen sons, the workers of the Torah and the Levitical tribe of our generation, have become targets for persecution and humiliation. Woe to us that this has happened in our time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In light of this, the faction decided that the only and obvious way to correct this terrible injustice is to promote a Basic Law: Torah Study, which clearly enshrines the value of Torah study and the contribution of Torah students to the existence and security of the Jewish people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We demand that you, Mr. Prime Minister, instruct the coalition leadership to bring up the Basic Law: Torah Study, which is currently on the Knesset table, for a preliminary reading vote as early as this coming Wednesday, in accordance with the express commitment in the coalition agreement signed between the Shas faction and the Likud faction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The faction announces that unless a majority is secured to approve the law, it will not vote on any other coalition legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Voting on Basic Law: Torah Study is a clear ethical, moral and national statement by the coalition regarding the central place of the Torah in the State of Israel, and it is necessary at this time, in accordance with the worldview of the majority of the Jewish people and all components of the faith bloc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We remind you of your words in your speech in the Knesset plenary session on the value of Torah study (on: &quot;The world of Torah protected us throughout the years of exile. The study of Torah and the preservation of the heritage are what protected the Jewish people, and without them the Jewish people would not survive.
