An analysis by the Research, Economics and Strategy Division at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security shows that Israelis consumed approximately 201,000 tons of meat in 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amount of beef consumption\u00a0<\/strong>In Israel, per capita consumption averages about 20.2 kg per year - an increase of about 71% compared to 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The analysis also shows that during the week of Independence Day, there is a 461.3% increase in the amount of meat sold in retail chains compared to a normal week in the meat category as a whole, and a 3.3-fold increase in the "grilled meat" category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beef consumption in Israel, according to the ministry's data, stood at approximately 20.2 kg per capita in 2025, while the average consumption in OECD countries is lower than Israel's and stood at only 13.4 kg per capita. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Argentina leads in first place with 31.1 kg per capita, followed by the United States with 23.2 kg per capita, and Australia in third place with 21.9 kg per capita.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fresh meat consumed in Israel can be divided into three main categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Fresh meat slaughtered in Israel (30%) - originating from the dairy and pasture farm (14%) and from the import of live calves (16%)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Imported chilled meat (20%)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Imported frozen meat (50%)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chilled and frozen meat arrives in Israel after being slaughtered abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to StoreNext data, the average price in retail chains for a kilogram of frozen meat in 2025 was approximately 52.5 NIS per kilogram on average. The average price of a fresh front cut in retail chains (front parts) was 86.9 NIS per kilogram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, together with the Regulatory Authority in the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Health, are promoting a comprehensive reform of the minced meat market, which aims to remove regulatory barriers, create uniformity between the ministries' requirements, and increase competition in the industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move will allow for broader marketing of fresh ground meat that is ground in factories under advanced quality control, similar to what is common in Europe and the US, instead of grinding exclusively at points of sale. This change is expected to expand the supply in retail chains, reduce operating costs, and reduce food waste. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reform is expected to result in a reduction in consumer prices of up to 151% and total savings of hundreds of millions to billions of shekels per year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be careful to buy meat only in authorized places, with a business license that are under supervision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make sure to purchase a product in its original packaging, which is closed, clean, and has a label that also includes the production date and expiration date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Israel, there are businesses that sell thawed frozen meat and present it as fresh meat \u2013 this is against the law. \"Thawed\" meat is of poorer quality than fresh meat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, there are businesses that boast about "aged meat." In practice, all types of meat must undergo an aging process (except ground meat or particularly fatty cuts), otherwise the meat will be inedible.
