The Ministry of Transportation, through the Cross-Israel Company, continues to promote the "Southern Railway (Fate)" plan - a national project to strengthen the connection between the Negev and the center, improve public transportation and drive regional growth. Today (Tuesday), a discussion was held at the Planning Administration on the proposals submitted for the plan, as another step towards its approval by the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The plan to strengthen the connection between the Negev and the center was approved for submission by the National Planning and Building Council last September, and is currently being advanced in March towards the start of implementation, under the guidance of Minister Regev.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Goral Railway will branch off from the Tel Aviv-Beer Sheva Railway in the Goral Junction area (Highways 40 and 406), and will pass near the Shoket Darom interchange on Highway 6. It is approximately 13 kilometers long, and includes a double tunnel approximately 4.5 kilometers long that will be dug under the Goral Hills - an advanced engineering solution that combines large-scale infrastructure development alongside environmental protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project is expected to yield a series of significant transportation, economic and regional benefits. The railway will provide a quality transportation solution for residents of the area, workers in the new employment areas and employees of Kiryat Hamodiin, while shortening travel times to the center of the country and improving accessibility through advanced, fast and efficient public transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, the Goral Railway will enable the diversion of freight trains and hazardous materials outside the city of Beer Sheva, thus contributing to safety, reducing risks, and improving the quality of life in the city and its surroundings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The track will be connected to the Ashkelon - Beer Sheva track and will significantly improve cargo transportation to the Port of Ashdod, as part of strengthening the national transportation and logistics system and increasing the efficiency of the rail network in Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the project, an advanced transportation hub will be established that will include a bus terminal and a parking lot for approximately 500 vehicles, and will constitute an integrated transportation center (ITC) that will connect trains, buses, pedestrians and bicycles, and will be an integral part of the national transportation hub program promoted by Minister of Transportation Regev.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The "Gorel" transportation center will serve as a regional transportation hub that will strengthen connectivity between the various means of transportation and enable convenient, fast and efficient passage between them. The station was designed with a concept of maximum accessibility and a combination of transportation means, so that passengers can reach it by all means - by public transportation, private vehicle, on foot or by bicycle. This is within the framework of the Ministry of Transportation's policy to promote connected and sustainable public transportation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Brigadier General (res.) Miri Regev, said: "The Southern Railway is a central part of our vision to connect Israel from north to south. Alongside the development of the railway, we are also promoting an integrated transportation center that will connect to the national network of transportation hubs, and will enable a smooth and convenient transition between trains, buses and complementary means of transportation. This is a move that strengthens the Negev, significantly shortens travel times and provides the public with an advanced and efficient alternative to the private car."\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n
