The Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court decided today (Wednesday) to release the mohel suspected of causing the death of a baby through negligence, after a complication during a circumcision - and determined that he will remain under house arrest until next Thursday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police filed an appeal, and the District Court upheld the Magistrate's Court's decision on house arrest. "The investigation is continuing with the aim of reaching the truth," the police said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mohel, 66 years old from Bnei Brak, was arrested following an investigation opened at the Bnei Brak police station, upon receiving a complaint about the death of a baby, due to suspicion of a complication in the circumcision procedure performed by the mohel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The patrol officers arrested the suspect, and he was brought in for questioning - and at the end of his questioning, he was imprisoned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a report on i24, the ceremony took place earlier this month, after which the baby felt unwell - and the parents noticed swelling and bruising. They contacted a pediatrician, who ordered the baby to be rushed immediately to the hospital by ambulance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The baby was hospitalized - and his condition began to deteriorate after an infection developed there. He was pronounced dead last week, and his family was left in mourning today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His father and his mother's family filed a complaint with the police - the 66-year-old mohel was arrested and questioned for several hours - while denying the events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His name has been linked in the past to several investigations, in which it was alleged that he had put babies in life-threatening situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mohel claimed during his interrogation that he instructed the parents to remove the bandage the day after the ceremony. According to him, the parents informed him that they were traveling to the north, and when he asked how they would handle it, they replied that they would call another mohel to remove the bandage. They contacted him four days later and informed him that the bandage had not been removed at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
