As part of an investigation by the IDF Missing Persons Branch, it was determined that the deceased Dov Permat was buried in a mass grave in Maoz Haim with 16 other IDF fallen soldiers from the War of Independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Private Dov Permat, 14, fell in battle in the Malkiya area in 1948, at the age of 17 - and his burial place is unknown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After an intensive investigation led by the Missing Persons Branch of the IDF Casualty Brigade, which lasted for over five years, his burial place was located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On June 5, 1948, Company A of the 11th Battalion of the 'Oded' (9th) Brigade encountered an enemy force while on a mission to defend the northern border and the Malkijah area. Following an attack by a Lebanese-Syrian brigade force, a battle ensued, in the end of which Dov Permat fell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After years of strenuous efforts to locate artifacts to rebury him, a special investigation team (SIT) was established in 2020, which carried out many and varied investigative actions to locate his burial place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The investigation included document analysis, witness interrogation, soil analysis, and archaeological surveys. All of this led to the conclusion that Permat, the 14th, was buried in the mass grave at Maoz Haim with 16 other IDF martyrs from the 1958 battles in Malkiya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His family, including Dov's niece, received an update last night from the Chief Human Resources Officer and Head of the Casualty Brigade, Brigadier General Edna Ilya, on the completion of the investigation and the unraveling of the mystery of his disappearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the near future, the circle will close after almost 78 years, and a state military ceremony will be held to add a tombstone in the name of Dov Permat, the 14th, at the military cemetery in Maoz Haim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Missing Persons Locating Unit is working and continuing its efforts to locate IDF fallen soldiers whose burial places are unknown, with a deep sense of commitment to all bereaved families. Even these days, the IDF continues to act with a moral and ethical commitment to the return of the missing and fallen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dov the Elder, son of Bela and Yitzhak, was born on 23rd of Shvat 3001 - 10.2.1931 in Haifa. After finishing elementary school, he went to work. He specialized in frameworks and worked in a factory. He was a member of the 'Working Youth' and spent some time on the kibbutz. From his youth he was a member of the 'Hagana'.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Upon enlisting in the Oded Brigade during the War of Independence, he went to the Galilee and, among other things, participated in the battles of Safed, Ramot Naftali, and Hulyat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dov fell in Malkiya when he was hit by a cluster of enemy bullets on Iyar 27, 5778 - June 5, 1948. His body was not found and he was considered missing in action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
