Today (Thursday), Maj. Gen. (res.) Asael Babed, a resident of the Bnei Adam settlement in the Binyamin Regional Council, was laid to rest at the Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asael died of his wounds after being injured in the battle in Rafah three months ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asael, 38 years old at the time of his death, was married to Hagit and had five children - Tamar, Shai, Ayla, Gilad and Nega. He is the 60th member of the Binyamin Council to die since the start of the war. He died two weeks before his 39th birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asael was injured as a teenager in the serious attack at Yeshiva Chitzim in Itamar in 2002, in which three teenagers were murdered, and carried the wounds of the incident with him throughout his life. At the beginning of the war, he served in the reserves in units of the ultra-Orthodox Nahal veterans, and operated on security missions in Judea and Samaria, and later joined the Uriah unit that operated in the Gaza Strip to destroy terrorist infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his civilian life, he ran a garage in the town of Bnei Adem. After he enlisted in the reserves, it became clear that he used to help everyone according to their financial ability, quietly and modestly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After being wounded in the battle in Rafah, he fought for many months for his life and rehabilitation, until his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the funeral, personal farewells were heard from his family members:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hagit, Asael's wife, eulogized: "As you always said, so God willed. What immense faith you had, without questions and without appeals, even when it was difficult. You don't complain and don't say you don't have the strength. You were a man of action with a divine touch. You managed to fix and solve everything. How proud I am of you for this simple and courageous life. Thank you for 15 years of being together, of joint creation, for having my back, giving me stability in life, and building me a home in the fullest sense of the word.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Omar, Asael's brother, said: "You spoke in your son's covenant about joy, and about the importance of saying thank you and being joyful. Thanking God Almighty for all the favors, even now, when it is most difficult to see it this way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tzruya, Asael's sister, added: "You proved what willpower is throughout the rehabilitation. It turns out you gave us a great gift, you gave us three months to be by your side, to say goodbye, to talk, to be together. It was during this period that we discovered you from a different angle, with an open heart.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I said it was impossible, you said it was possible. You spoke clearly and to the point. We sat together, drank coffee, and those were your last moments of lucidity.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The father of Hagit, Asael's wife, eulogized: "Asael, until now we have been accustomed to exile where the sun rose and the slaughterer slaughtered. No more. We have an army, we have heroes, and you are among them. A new generation of heroes has arisen, full of strength and spirit, who give their lives for the people of Israel, the Land of Israel, and the Torah of Israel. Asael, you are one of those pure souls who are all of Israel and connected to the eternal Israel. You volunteered to work with engineering tools to dismantle the enemy's infrastructure. It was clear to you that this was what needed to be done. Your great soul, caring, and connection to the eternal Israel led you to stand up, volunteer, and take action. You did everything with humility and silence.".<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rabbi Aryeh Horowitz said: "Asahel, a man of action. He said little and did much. The Sages teach us that great Talmud is that which leads to action. You are a man of action, connected in a simple way to the secret of things. This is certainly how you acted in all the battlefields in which you were.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
