Minister of Transportation and Road Safety Miri Regev announced today (Sunday) that she has chosen retired Lieutenant General Mordechai (Motti) Edrei as chairman of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
His appointment will soon be submitted for approval by the committee for reviewing appointments in government agencies and the government. Edrei will replace the outgoing chairman of the Harlabad Council, retired Major General Yoram Halevi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Edrei served for about 35 years in the Israel Police and held a variety of senior positions, including Investigations and Intelligence Division Officer in the Central District, Commander of the Central Police Headquarters, Commander of the Lowlands Region, and Deputy Commander of the Southern District. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, he served as a consultant in the field of civil security and safety in the cities of Gedera and Lod. He advised the Association of Insurance Companies on the subject of car thefts, and served as the Election Integrity Supervisor on the Elections Committee for the 25th Knesset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister Regev's announcement about Edrei's selection comes today after government members unanimously approved the national plan to combat road accidents, which was prepared by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration under the leadership of the Minister of Transportation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program, with a scope of NIS 350 million per year, will be budgeted within the framework of the 2026 budget, alongside an immediate budget of NIS 50 million that will be designated for the next month and a half until the end of the year, for the purpose of beginning its implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edrei holds a BA in Business Administration from the University of Derby, and a MA in Political Science and Law Enforcement from the University of Haifa.
