Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) is one of the most common and deadly types of cancer. Approximately 21% of patients have a mutation called BRAF V600E, which causes the cancer cells to divide uncontrollably.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Until now, these patients have often been treated with a combination of two existing drugs, which in a clinical study showed a median survival of 17.3 months, with a median progression-free survival of approximately 10.8 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About two weeks ago, at the prestigious annual conference of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), survival results from a clinical study called PHAROS were published for the first time, which examined the drug combination Encorafenib and Binimetinib, which presents particularly impressive results: Among patients who had not received prior treatment, a median survival of 47.6 months was recorded \u2013 almost four years. This is the longest figure recorded so far in first-line treatment for patients with this mutation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even among patients who had previously received treatments, a positive response was recorded, with a median survival of approximately 22.7 months. The researchers also reported that no new side effects were recorded over time, and the safety profile of the drugs remained stable, with a lower rate of serious side effects compared to the existing treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The researchers note that the new drug combination not only improves life expectancy, but also offers a better quality of life for patients, thanks to a long-term response, and a safer side effect profile - a significant challenge in the treatment of advanced lung cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
