Maran HaGard Lando gave words of encouragement to yeshiva students who came to his home on the Yeshiva Hill in Bnei Brak for consultation - after they received a draft order from the IDF.
"The true content of the Jewish people, that's the only reason it exists, and the Torah scholars are the ones who hold the people together - not anything else. If it weren't for that, who knows what would have happened here. They would have washed away all the enemies around us in one day. Why didn't they do it? Is there an explanation? The Arabs are not such gentle people... They could have killed everyone and no army would have been useful, they would have washed away the entire country, why didn't they think of something like that? For the Torah scholars."
"The yeshiva head added: "Although it is often our concern that a large part of the people of Israel has abandoned the Torah and are doing things that are written in the Torah, 'And the land will not vomit you out when you defile it,' they are defiling the land with all sorts of things. What saves us? Does the army save? God helps them succeed, why doesn't the land vomit them out? Because of the study of Torah."
