The State Attorney's Office filed an indictment today (Thursday) with the Central District Traffic Court against a new driver, approximately 18 years old from the south of the country, for negligently causing the death of two passengers - including the defendant's mother, and injuring six other passengers, in a fatal traffic accident on Highway 431.
The indictment filed by Attorney Shir Toledano of the Central District Attorney's Office states that the defendant - who was a minor at the time of the accident that occurred on September 11, 2024 - was driving in the evening hours on Route 431, with her mother and three other passengers in the car.
For an unclear reason, the defendant swerved sharply into another lane, crossed the traffic jam, and continued crossing the lanes on the road until she collided with another vehicle.
As a result of the collision, both vehicles were dragged and hit the median strip. The defendant's mother and another passenger in her vehicle were killed at the scene, and six other passengers, some from the other vehicle, were injured to varying degrees and were evacuated to the hospital for medical treatment.
The indictment accuses the defendant of committing two offenses of causing death by negligent driving, as well as negligent driving that caused a traffic accident in which people were injured and property was damaged.
Along with the indictment, the prosecution submitted a request to the court to revoke the defendant's driver's license until the end of the legal proceedings against her.
In the motion to disqualify, the prosecution stated that the defendant drove the vehicle recklessly and negligently and, through her actions, caused the fatal outcome of the accident - the death of two women and several injuries, only six months after receiving her driver's license.
