A member of the Shas Council of Sages, Haresh Mahfoud, spoke today on Kol Berama radio about the conscription law and preventing the budgeting of the Torah world - this against the backdrop of the Council of Sages' recognition of its decision to resign from the government, because "in the current situation, it is not possible to sit in the government and be a partner with it, when the people of the Torah are being trampled."
Rabbi Mahfoud explained: "The decrees now are more than they were in the Diaspora. Even the Gentiles did not make such decrees. They humiliate the people of the Torah. They are not even human."
The rabbi explained his teaching: "Many Torah scholars donate through charity, isn't that an army? The secularists don't do a quarter of the acts of charity that the ultra-Orthodox do."
On the IDF's decision to hunt down yeshiva students on their way to or from yeshiva - he said: "This is a disgrace to the Torah world. They want to put us in a ghetto, so that they can't leave. All sorts of decrees. They have no shame. Let them say thank you very much that we are protecting them."
