The management of the Clalit Health Insurance Fund appealed to the Labor Court this morning (Thursday) in order to stop the workers' strike that went into effect at 7:00 AM.

The court will hear the matter at 9:00.

The Clalit workers' committee announced last night that today - starting at 7:00 AM and lasting 24 hours - all clinics and medical centers of Clalit Health Services will be on strike, in protest of the workers' committee's decision to establish an inspection committee for the fund's conduct.

According to the workers' committee, the decision undermines the fund's independence and management.

The clinics in the community will be closed for 24 hours, except for oncology and fertility treatments, as well as home visits to administer insulin to diabetics.

The hospitals will be operated in the most limited format, which will include intensive care, emergency rooms, delivery rooms, dialysis, oncology and fertility units.

A strike headquarters will be established in the workers' committee to handle urgent and exceptional cases or any other problem that may arise.

The chairman of the workers' committee wrote about the strike: "In light of the Ministry of Health's decision to take over Clalit Health Services, to deal a death blow to its managerial independence, we have decided to immediately launch a struggle against the attempt by external parties to cut and harm our wages, stop the absorption of additional employees, carry out downsizing and ostensibly streamlining layoffs, block our excellent employees from advancing and replace them with people from outside," he wrote.

"As a first and necessary step, we have decided to declare a 24-hour warning strike in all Clalit districts, clinics, hospitals, and health service sectors. Starting Thursday, July 17, at 7:00 a.m., a general strike will be held in all Clalit clinics and hospitals for 24 hours."

Yesterday it was announced that Health Minister Ariel Bosso accepted the recommendation of his office's Director General Moshe Bar Siman Tov and decided to appoint an external committee to examine the conduct of the Health Fund's board of directors.

This was after concerns were raised about the fund's stability and proper conduct. According to the decision, the review committee will submit its recommendations in about a month.
