The State Attorney's Office today (Sunday) informed the Commissioner of the Prison Service, Lieutenant Colonel Kobi Yaakovi, that the Legal Advisor to the Government and the State Attorney are considering bringing him to criminal trial, subject to a hearing, on suspicion of crimes related to morality.

According to suspicion, Yaakovi passed confidential and sensitive information regarding a covert investigation into his case to the commander of the SY Division, Lieutenant Colonel Avishai Mualem.

Yacoubi claimed to the investigators that he did not inform Mualem about the investigation against him, since he was unaware of its existence.

Yacoubi previously served in senior positions in the Israel Police and the Prison Service, including as the security secretary to National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

The case is being handled by the Police Investigations Department at the State Attorney's Office.

Response from Attorney Uri Korev, attorney for Commissioner Yaakovi: "Commissioner of Prisons Yaakovi is an honest and highly qualified law enforcement officer who was blameless in his actions.

Yacoubi was appointed to the position of IPS Commissioner about a year and a half ago and led a revolution in the prison service, which is reflected, among other things, in the governance of security prisoners and the heads of criminal organizations, alongside organizational strengthening and the positioning of the Prison Service and its fighters as a decisive factor in the chain of the war on terror and crime. All this in close cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.

Commissioner Yaakovi served in his previous positions in the Israel Police in a series of senior positions that he filled with distinction and even received the Medal of Excellence for saving a life at the risk of his own life. As a result, Yaakovi advanced in ranks and positions.

We regret the erroneous decision. As the court determined, the recorded conversation between the Commissioner and the missing person reinforces Yacoubi's version that he had no knowledge of the investigation and could not have disrupted an investigation that he did not know about. Yacoubi's requests for a confrontation were not granted, and this harmed the clarification of the truth.

"The Commissioner is confident that his arguments will be heard with an open heart and willing mind, and the case in his case will be closed after the hearing. The Commissioner will continue and act in accordance with his supreme commitment to his role as head of a law enforcement organization.".

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir responded: "Gali Bahar Meara, on the eve of a hearing before a ministerial committee that will discuss her dismissal, and after the High Court of Justice rolled her down all the stairs, announces that she has completed the case against IPS Commissioner Kobi Yaakovi, through the National Intelligence Service, her private and political police - and that she will file an indictment against him.".

""The attorney general is filing this political indictment for one reason: an attempt to terrorize officers who implement the policies of the elected echelon, with the aim of politicizing the law enforcement system and preserving the rule of the Deep State.".

He added: "I am clearly and firmly announcing - I give full support to Rabbi Kobi Yaakovi, who will of course remain in his position, and will continue to perform it as he has performed it until now - with determination, professionalism, without bias, and of course without any extraneous considerations, to the displeasure of the legal advisor to the government and her criminal behavior.".

After the interrogation, Yaakovi told Channel 12: "Unfortunately, I cannot speak because of the restrictions I have. I immediately demanded a press conference, but one of the conditions imposed on me is a ban on doing so. I can only say that I have nothing to hide and nothing to hide. I also don't want any lawyer. I waited for 5-6 hours and no one spoke to me, I just waited in the MHA offices.".

Regarding the serious suspicions against him - breach of trust and obstruction of justice, Yaakovi replied: "I would be happy to answer you about everything, but at this stage I cannot. I promise that as soon as it becomes possible - I will answer everything.".
