Captain Rei Biran, 21, from Mashorish, a team commander in the Golani Patrol, fell in battle in the southern Gaza Strip.

He will be laid to rest at 1:00 PM in the military section of the Nahalal cemetery.

An initial investigation into the incident indicates that a Golani patrol force operated against terrorist targets in Khan Yunis, as part of a mission to detonate mines in structures suspected of being terrorist infrastructure.

About two hours later, during the mine operation, an explosion occurred, injuring Captain Biran. He was later pronounced dead.

The IDF estimates that Rei was hit by shrapnel or a part of a structure that flew as a result of the explosion. The IDF is beginning an investigation into the incident, and will try to determine how the officer was injured by an explosion initiated by our forces.

Her father, Rei Ya'd's partner, wrote on her Instagram account: "You are the love of my life. Please come back to me.".

His brother, football referee Omer Biran, wrote: "With great sadness and dark grief we announce the fall of my little brother, my beloved friend.".

His uncle Eitan said goodbye: "Rei was a child of light, a brave warrior, a beloved son, brother, and nephew who is second to none. The pain is immense, the loss is unimaginable.".

The Emek Jezreel Regional Council said: "I bow my head in deep sadness and pain upon learning the difficult news of the death of Captain Rei Biran, 21, a team commander in the Golani Patrol, who fell in the battle of Khan Yunis. Rei, a native of the Emek, grew up in Timrat, a graduate of the WIZO Nahalal School. His family recently moved to the roots. At this difficult time, we would like to hug the dear Biran family and the Timrat community, and share in their deep sorrow.".

Since the outbreak of the war, 890 soldiers have been killed, 448 of them during the ground maneuvers in the Gaza Strip. 33 fighters have been killed in the last two months alone.
