The Beersheba District Court this week convicted Bilal Nassara, a resident of Rahat, who pleaded guilty to the offenses of conspiracy to aid the enemy in war, possession of weapons for terrorist purposes, and attempted possession of property for terrorist purposes.

In accordance with the plea agreement, the parties requested that he be sentenced to 11.5 years in prison and a fine.

The verdict will be given at a later date.

Nassara was convicted as part of a broad case centered on an attempt to establish an organization aimed at carrying out terrorist attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians.

In April 2024, the Southern District Attorney's Office filed an indictment against 10 defendants in the case. According to the indictment, Nassara and Akram Amar conceived the idea of establishing the organization, recruited additional activists, and led the initiative. Most of the defendants were involved at various levels, with some being exposed to the idea following a chance encounter with one of the two main defendants.

Nassara and members of the organization planned various terrorist attacks, including a combined attack in Kiryat Arba, in which they planned to deploy a network of explosive devices throughout the city and carry out a shooting attack.

In this context, the two also planned to assassinate Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who lives in the city, by firing an RPG missile they tried to obtain. Also, during Independence Day, the defendants planned to carry out attacks in Haifa, Ben-Gurion Airport, and the Government Complex in Jerusalem.

Eight of the defendants involved were marginal, taking no real action to implement the project, and the initiative remained only in the conceptual stage. After a complex mediation process before the President of the Beersheba District Court, Judge Benny Sagi, the parties agreed on sentences that reflected the proportional share of each defendant.

In May 2025, Akram Amar, who was identified as the main defendant in the case, was convicted of conspiracy to aid the enemy in war, possession of weapons for the purpose of terrorism (production), and attempted possession of property for the purpose of terrorism, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The eight marginally involved in the affair were sentenced to prison sentences ranging from 28 months to 5.5 years, each depending on their part.

The case was handled by Attorney Masad Masad and Attorney Hofit Kantrowitz from the Southern District Attorney's Office (Criminal).

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said in response to a plea agreement with the terrorist from Rahat who led a cell that planned to eliminate him: "This is what lawlessness looks like - he planned to assassinate a minister in the Israeli government - and received 11.5 years in prison. This is what a judicial system that misses its basic role looks like: protecting the lives of its citizens from terrorists.".

""This is not an attack on me - it is an attack on the entire country. Someone who admits that he planned to assassinate a minister, establish a terrorist organization and harm civilians - should not see the light of day. In any other country, he would be executed.".

""The only consolation - that thanks to the policy I'm leading, he will be in a real prison - not in a training camp.".
