The government won: The Attorney General and government representatives submitted their consent to the 'Zini Compromise' to the High Court judges today (Tuesday).
According to Moti Castel's report, as part of the compromise, a ruling will be issued on the petitions, according to which, after 60 days, the Prime Minister will be able to appoint Major General Zini without restrictions.
The term of S. - who currently serves as head of the Shin Bet - will be extended by agreement as acting head, with the background to the agreements being the prosecution's claim behind closed doors that the 'Catargate' investigations are expected to last another two months.
The one who proposed the compromise arrangement was Judge Kanfi-Steinitz, who is the balance of power in the panel.
According to the report, the Ombudsman's representatives demanded that at the end of the two months the Grunis Committee express its opinion, while attempting to expand its powers, as well as to exclude the compromise in the event of a snap election - but the court did not accept the proposal.
The bottom line: the Attorney General's extreme opinion was not accepted.
The attorney general did manage to delay the appointment for two months, but Prime Minister Netanyahu did not transfer his powers and Zini was ultimately appointed head of the Shin Bet.
