At the government meeting held last week, Deputy Minister Uri Maklev raised the problem: the failure of emergency alerts to reach the Haredi public, who only own "kosher" phones.
According to him, a broad public that does not use digital means – such as smartphones and communication apps – does not receive Home Front Command alerts in real time.
""Many inquiries that have reached my office from heads of municipalities and ultra-Orthodox citizens indicate a deep and ongoing problem," said Deputy Minister Maklev. "This is about life protection. The ultra-Orthodox public is disconnected from the warning systems, and urgent action must be taken to correct the omission.".
The Deputy Minister emphasized that the Haredi Authority in the Prime Minister's Office has already formulated and presented solutions tailored to the needs of the Haredi sector, but so far there has been disregard from the responsible parties in the Home Front Command.
Following the Deputy Minister's request, the Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Defense and the relevant authorities to examine the issue and present solutions that will ensure that emergency alerts reach populations that are not connected to digital means, and in particular the Haredi public.
