The Ministry of Education issued closure orders and froze budgets for approximately 80 Haredi educational institutions that operated in violation of Home Front Command guidelines - risking human lives.
The dramatic move was decided after the ministry received information about educational institutions that were operating in violation of the law and defense guidelines.
The Ministry of Education dispatched inspectors to schools across the country to verify compliance with the mandatory guidelines - and in institutions where prohibited educational activity was detected, immediate steps were taken: closure orders were issued, and budget transfers were stopped.
The operation was carried out against educational institutions operating in Jerusalem, Bnei Brak, Tiberias, Rehovot, Modi'in Illit and Beitar Illit.
School principals will be summoned to a hearing within 48 hours.
Minister of Education, Yoav Kish: "The lives of our children come first. An educational institution that violates the Home Front Command's guidelines will be dealt with immediately and with the clear means at the ministry's disposal: sending inspectors, issuing closure orders, and stopping budgets.".
He said, "There are no compromises when it comes to student safety. It is a national responsibility - and we are using all the tools at our disposal.".
""The Ministry of Education will continue to act decisively, including implementing enforcement measures in any case where deviations from the mandatory guidelines are discovered.".
Let us recall that at the outbreak of the war, Maran HaGaradan Lando ordered that classes in Talmud Torah "from Gemara studies onwards" could only be held if there was a protected space in the building and there was room to comfortably accommodate all the students and get there without any urgency on the way.
""Studies can also be held in small yeshivots - if the conditions we mentioned are met. In such cases, it is better to study until the afternoon without going home at noon.".
