The life of Itay Mason, 16, from Netanya, was saved after an Iranian missile fell on Friday - in the lower city of Haifa.

Itai was traveling with his father David, a resident of Kiryat Ata, to spend the weekend, when suddenly the missile hit Haifa.

The two sought shelter under a bridge, but Itay was hit by shrapnel in the neck and his father in the upper body. Two shrapnel lodged in Itay's neck, a tiny distance from his carotid artery – an injury that could have been fatal.

The two were urgently evacuated to the emergency room at Rambam Medical Center, where Itay underwent complex surgery, led by Dr. Wissam Matanes, a specialist in pediatric ENT surgery, and Dr. Roy Noy.

The doctors skillfully extracted the fragments, saving his life.

""It was a great miracle," says Father David, who immigrated from Manchester, with a smile from the underground trauma department at Rambam. "It has already had several accidents, but we British believe there are 11 souls, so we are still okay!""

In the photo: Itay holds the fragments that the doctors gave him for the shift.
